After a century of steel production in the dunes of Wijk aan Zee, IJmond residents are diametrically opposed. For many IJmonders, the factory is their life and their bread. They see the smoking colossus in the dunes as a natural part of the landscape. Other, often new, residents are deeply concerned about their health. Plans to go green may come too late. Because patience is running out and protests by local residents against Tata Steel are growing. Steel is about today's big question: how do you live together, when interests are so divergent?
