He has sold over 90 million records to date, many of which have achieved gold and platinum status. Above all, however, he continues to delight audiences as a live singer. His "Kaisermania", which takes place on the banks of the Elbe in Dresden, attracts pop fans of all generations from all over Germany and has long since become a huge event. This makes him truly "the Kaiser" of his genre. And someone who conquered the East when the Wall was still standing. It was December 21, 1973 when Roland Kaiser sang a song in a recording studio for the first time in his life: "In the Ghetto" by Elvis Presley. With an unmistakable baritone voice and his own interpretation. Thomas Meisel, head of Hansa Studios, immediately knew: This is the absolute pop voice. What followed was a contract with Hansa and the meteoric rise of a young man from humble beginnings. Born as "Ronald Keiler" in the Berlin working-class district of Wedding on May 10, 1952, his biological mother gave him up after birth. He grew up lovingly and in a lack of prosperity with a foster mother, experienced the building of the wall, the divided city, first became a car salesman and then a superstar. Ronald Keiler became Roland Kaiser, who took the hearts of fans by storm with songs like "To love you", "Sometimes I want to be with you" and "I think it's already starting again". His first big hit, "Santa Maria", alone sold 1.2 million copies. His clearly ambiguous lyrics are unmistakable. In them, the hit song seeks to unite with bursting sensuality. At today's concerts, young people who weren't even born when his first songs came onto the market dance and sing. The "Kaisermania", especially on the Elbe meadows in Dresden, has gone from an event to a phenomenon. But the singer not only experiences highs, but also lows. In 2010, the singer, who was suffering from COPD, received a donor lung transplant. Eight months later, Roland Kaiser was back on stage. Who is this man who never gives up? Written by MDR See less
