Emotional abuse is kind of surreal, it's invisible, sometimes even for the victims themselves - but: emotional abuse is abuse, more precisely one of the most common forms of violence in families but least talked about. For us it was important to tell the audience about the undefined "something is wrong"-feeling by showing daily life situations in an unusual way and creating the Danger through over-stylized, perfect Situations. Thats why we chose to create a movie with this surreal, "magrittish" world. Happy Holy Family shows abuse in an uncommon way and focuses on the feeling of it. See less
