Despite the cultural and language barriers, they are immediately drawn to each other. ...See moreThe story follows Anna, a young woman living in a small border town, and Carlos, a man from the neighboring country who has come to work in her town. Despite the cultural and language barriers, they are immediately drawn to each other. However, their relationship is complicated by the fact that Carlos is an illegal immigrant, and Anna's father is a border patrol agent. As their love for each other grows, Carlos must confront the harsh reality that he may be deported at any time, and Anna must confront her father's prejudices and the threat of losing her lover. They are forced to make a decision, whether to risk everything and try to stay together or to let go of their love. The climax of the story comes when Carlos is arrested and Anna must decide whether to turn him in or help him escape. She chooses to help him escape, but when they reach the border, Carlos is shot by the border patrol. The resolution of the story comes when Carlos wakes up in a hospital, and Anna is by his side. Carlos has been granted asylum, and they can finally be together without fear of separation. Throughout the story, the theme of love and sacrifice is explored, as well as the human cost of immigration policies. The character's emotions and romantic tension are present throughout the story.
