Steve and Viki anxiously await news of what's happening at Stan Perlo's house in Downersville. Steve reminds Viki that the odds aren't good of anyone making it out the situation alive since the District Attorney's office refused to hand over their mob files. Viki can't fathom why Tom put his own life on the line to save Millie. The pair find Meredith's note telling them that Marcy is waiting in the garage apartment for word on Tom. They discuss Victor's paternal feelings for Tom, and Viki hopes her father's interference doesn't endanger Millie and Tom. Victor arrives at the scene of the shooting. He tearfully assures Tom that he will be just fine. In Tom's apartment, Marcy steams open the sealed envelope addressed to Victor that Tom left in a desk drawer. She reads the letter which is a complete confession of his real identity as Tom Mackenzie, not Victor's illegitimate son, and his secret marriage to Marcy. Before Marcy can react, Cathy suddenly appears at the door, and Marcy quickly puts the envelope in the desk. Back at the hideout, Tom fights for the strength to talk to Victor, who urges him to rest and save his strength. But with all his might, Tom manages to thank him for all he's done and instructs him to get the letter he left for him in his desk. The ambulance finally arrives, but it's too late. Tom closes his eyes and quietly passes away. Victor and Millie cling to one another in their shared grief. Marcy invites Cathy into Tom's apartment to talk. After Cathy casually mentions that Tom had confided some of his secrets to her, Marcy begins fishing to find out if Cathy knows about their marriage and if she figured out that Marcy was the mob informant who set up Millie. Cathy plays Marcy's game until ultimately admitting that she is aware of Tom's real identity and marriage. Satisfied that Cathy doesn't know she informed on Millie, Marcy suggests that they honor Tom's feelings by keeping his secrets. Bert reminds Millie that she can't help Tom now and encourages her to go to Vince who is recovering from his second surgery. Marcy walks to Llanfair to see if there's any news about the hostage situation. She arrives just as Bert phones to break the news of Tom's death to Viki. Steve insists on driving Viki to her devastated father. Marcy runs back to the garage apartment in tears, wailing for her lost Tommy. She sits at his desk and once her tears subside, she reaches into the drawer and removes the letter. Realizing Victor must never read it, Marcy drops it in an ashtray and sets it on fire. As it burns up, she's satisfied that no one will ever know truth. Written by Mark Faulkner See less
