BROKEN is a film about a complicated situation. The documentary Dear Mr. President (2006) tells the story of five Israeli and Palestinian teenage girls on a road-trip across the USA. This amazing group lost one of its most moving characters, Bessan, when Israel fired into her home in Gaza. Catapulted by the shocking death of Bessan the director returned to the region to create the epilogue , BROKEN. The film takes the viewer on an emotional journey with the remaining girls who knew Bessan while filming in Israel and Palestine. The interviews are coupled with the use of stock footage to recreate back-stories that represent the norm of the ubiquitous suffering, which shows the harsh realities, as well as, the enduring hope.
