In 1942 American Merchant Mariner Fred Larsen was separated from his wife and son he's never met for the two years since Nazis invaded Norway, closing the borders. Fred's ship is commissioned as part of Operation Pedestal, a desperately needed British supply convoy through the Mediterranean to the island of Malta. While he is dodging U-boats and dive-bombers, Minda is taken on her own dangerous journey through Berlin, via ship, to Ellis Island. Neither is aware of the other's fate.
