The theme suggests itself from Millet's ...See more"The Angelus" is a simple home story that might happen at any time in one of a dozen homes. The beautiful threads of sacred romance are woven gently mid the reverent tolling of "The Angelus." The theme suggests itself from Millet's historical painting of the same name and has its premier at the home of a poor parishioner, Mrs. Graves, widow with two small boys, Harvey and James, aged ten and twelve respectively; she is ill and the priest is called for; upon his arrival they find she cannot live; the priest takes the two boys and at their mother's death places Harvey in the Orphan Home and James is adopted by a wealthy family and educated with their only daughter. Twelve years elapse; James is out of college and Harvey has already left the Orphan Home. He opens a broker's office; James joins him. James is in love with Ilene, his schoolmate, and daughter of his foster father. She loves Harvey and weds him. The brothers separate and become rivals and enemies, and are finally brought back to brotherhood and happiness by the tolling of "The Angelus." Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
