John picks it up. That evening he incidentally meets the Van Dykes, stops the machine and returns the handkerchief. Mr. Van Dyke becomes interested in the invention and asks John to visit him. A bargain is struck, a new firm organized. The prospects of fortune win the daughter, the papers announce the wedding, the country sweetheart is forgotten. Years later John finds his mistake.
