Boasting only twelve houses, the stunning mountain hamlet was once a lively, tight-knit locality where neighbors helped one another and kids ran free. Yet the passing years have been rough to the community, emptying it of its young people and leaving behind its only remaining residents-a colorful collection of elderly widows. From Gloria, whose chickens and guinea pigs don't leave her enough time to be sad; and Sara, whose cat, dog and radio keep her company in a house once filled with the voices of her 10 children; to sweet nature Mariana, who can't quite remember the exact number of grandchildren she has; and Consolacion, for whom the daily appearance of the ice cream truck provides the biggest thrill, director Verónica Haro Abril has crafted a moving and lyrical tribute to the women who raised her and who have kept alive a community, often struggling with loneliness yet maintaining a sense of purpose and dignity throughout.
