Old San Jose Castillon owned the enormous Rancho San Fernando. He had for neighbor the young and handsome, but dissolute, Don Rafael Morales. The pretty but coquettish daughter of Don Jose gave decided preference to Don Enrique Monteverde, also a neighbor. Her father preferred Don Rafael. The young girl rebelled vigorously. Don Jose argued with Don Rafael, that if Enrique could be discredited in her eyes, the latter's suit might become successful. Don Rafael went his half-breed Indian woman, promising that he would marry her, if she would besmirch Enrique's character. The stratagem nearly had the desired effect, but Morenge, Enrique's servant, overhearing Rafael and the girl agree to marry, tells Ysoleta, who, inflamed by Rafael's treachery, stabs him as he dresses for his marriage. The blame falls on Enrique, but all is righted by Ysoleta's confession, and Don Jose relents and gives his daughter to Enrique. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
