Tim is rich but the marriage is objectionable to Carlock because the Grogans are shanty Irish. Rather than permit Gladys to wed the Grogan boy, a union which would furnish him money to make up his defalcations, Carlock decides to kill himself when in rushes his daughter, old Tim and Tim's son. The young couple have eloped and become man and wife. Old Tim sizes up the situation with Carlock in a moment, gains the confession from the banker that he was going to commit suicide, lends him the money to cover up his speculations, and brings happiness to all.
