Thus, the surprise of his many friends and business associates is great when he suddenly disappears, leaving his wife and baby alone and penniless. His wife struggles along as best she can, but is finally forced to give up her home and live in absolute poverty. To add to her troubles, the baby is taken seriously ill. The doctor, who is working to save the child's life. is also interested in a case at the hospital of a watchman who has been badly injured by thugs while on duty at the docks. The watchman recovers his health, but his strange actions interest the doctor, who is surprised to find a picture of the mother of the child he is also attending, in the case of the man's watch. The watchman proves to be Saunders who disappeared so strangely years before. Overwork had brought on an attack of aphasia, and he had been working as a watchman, entirely ignorant of his own identity. His recovery is followed by a complete return to health of his child and the little family is happily united once more. Written by
