When Noel Gerdy grows up he finds letters which lead him to believe he is the heir of Richard and upon further investigation finds letters which lead him to believe he is the heir of Richard Cameron, and upon further investigation finds that the substitution did not take place, but that Claudine and his mother are the only ones who know the truth of the situation. Later one night, Claudine is found murdered and three men are suspected, her husband, an old sailor Albert Cameron, the real son and another, Noel Gerdy.
