Everyone’s favorite accountant is returning to Dunder Mifflin!

Oscar Nuñez, who played the beloved Oscar Martinez on the American version of the hit comedy The Office, will be back (but maybe not in Scranton, Penn.) for the upcoming Peacock follow-up series, according to Variety and Deadline

Sources tell Variety that Nuñez’s character won’t be central to the new series, but he has been a part of the show’s first script since the beginning.

According to Variety, Nuñez, 66, is currently the only original cast member from the series set to reprise his role on the upcoming project, which Office creator Greg Daniels is creating and executive producing with Michael Korman.

Past casting that’s been announced includes Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young and Tim Key.

The series is currently untitled, but Deadline notes that it is rumored to be titled The Paper. It will follow the employees of a dying Midwestern newspaper as it attempts to be revived. Just like The Office, the series will be filmed in the same mockumentary style and will exist in the same universe as the hit series.

Sources told Variety that Daniels has said he felt most of The Office characters had complete stories, but that the one character he’d be interested in revisiting was Oscar.

Daniels has been clear in the past about his desire to update The Office universe to reflect the times.

“When people hear ‘reboot,’ they think it’s the exact same show,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in 2022 when asked about a potential Office reboot. “I don’t think that would work. I also think that the content was very much pitched for that period of time, when people weren’t as sensitive to what is giving offense to people so that you could have a boss who kept putting his foot in it.”

The Office premiered in 2005 in the U.S. after the U.K. version starring Ricky Gervais premiered in 2001. It starred Steve Carell as bumbling boss Michael Scott, as well as Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, B.J. Novak, Mindy Kaling, Ed Helms and more.

Kaling, 45, previously told PEOPLE in May 2024 that she would “of course” be open to reprising her role as Kelly Kapoor.

“For that group of people, I would definitely — I’d be open to it,” she shared at the time.

Carell, 62, previously shared that Gleeson, 42, reached out to him when deciding whether or not to take the role in the new series.

"I know Domhnall Gleeson – who I did The Patient with – is going to be one of the leads. I know that for sure," Carell told Jimmy Fallon in June 2024. "He’s an excellent actor. And he actually called me and asked, you know, ‘Should I do this? Is this something… Did you enjoy it?’ I said of course."

Representatives for Nuñez and Peacock did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
