Committee makes super for housing proposal First home buyers should be allowed to use their superannuation to buy a property, according to an interim report from the federal Senate Economics Committee. “The committee recommends that first home buyers be allowed to withdraw their superannuation contributions for use towards a home deposit, without a withdrawal percentage threshold,” the report said. The committee also recommended that first home buyers be allowed to use their super as collateral for a home loan. In another recommendation, the committee said anyone who uses super to buy their first home should have to repay those funds when they sell, unless they use the proceeds to buy their second home, and use that home as a residence rather than an investment property. As the table from the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia shows, the median super balance for Australians aged 30-34 is about $40,000. #property #realestate #homeloans
