HeliOperations lands £41M Royal Navy contract! Two advanced Leonardo AW139s will replace aging Dauphins for maritime ops from 2026—creating 15 jobs and enhancing NATO training with superior range/safety. How will the Royal Navy’s new helicopter support contract enhance operational readiness? The Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) agency has awarded Dorset-based SME HeliOperations a five-year contract valued at £41 million, with potential extension up to £68 million, to deliver helicopter support services for the Royal Navy. This deal supports 80 existing jobs and creates 15 new roles, reinforcing the UK’s commitment to small, high-end British enterprises. Starting spring 2026, HeliOperations will operate from Portland, providing two Leonardo Helicopters AW139 twin-engine platforms, replacing the single Dauphin N2. These state-of-the-art helicopters will support training for UK and NATO global operations by supplying pilots, crew, technical support, and maintenance to Navy Command. The AW139’s versatility, enhanced safety features, increased payload, and range position it as a key asset for maritime rotary wing support, enabling personnel and equipment transfers to warships and supporting Fleet Operational Standards and Training (FOST). Mark Langrill, Director Air Rotary & Uncrewed Air Systems at DE&S, emphasized the contract’s contribution to modernizing the Royal Navy’s capabilities and regional economic growth in South West England. HeliOperations CEO Steve Gladston highlighted the contract’s significance for fleet expansion, infrastructure development, and service efficiency. Modernization of rotary wing assets is critical, yet sustaining operational efficiency while supporting economic growth is complex. Can emerging platforms and SME partnerships truly meet the evolving demands of naval aviation? Norway’s first AAM Test Arena is LIVE! Bristow pilots BETA TECHNOLOGIES’ ALIA eVTOL on Stavanger-Bergen routes, tackling cold-weather IFR challenges. Can Nordic infrastructure support zero-emission aviation? Explore the journey: https://lnkd.in/gR8TatGE #AvfoilNews #eVTOL #SustainableAviation #AAM

Is Norway setting the global pace for zero-emission aviation? Bristow Norway AS, a subsidiary of Bristow Group Inc., flew BETA TECHNOLOGIES’ all-electric ALIA CX300 at Stavanger Airport on August 8, marking Norway’s first operations in its Test Arena for Zero & Low Emission Aviation. This initiative, supported by Avinor and the Civil Aviation Authority Norway, aims to evaluate and scale Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) across Norwegian airports. The program includes evaluation flights on routes such as Stavanger to Bergen, with potential expansion later this year. BETA-trained Bristow pilots Jeremy Degagne and Nate Dubie conducted the initial flights. Bristow will continue piloting and maintaining ALIA during the six-month regulatory sandbox, gathering operational insights for future commercial deployment. Norwegian government ministers Jon-Ivar Nygård and Andreas Bjelland Eriksen emphasized the strategic importance of this systemic approach to sustainable aviation and green innovation. Avinor CEO Abraham Foss highlighted Norway’s reliance on aviation connectivity and commitment to a sustainable transition. ALIA’s design optimizes payload, range, and IFR capabilities, making it well-suited to Norway’s geography and climate. CAA Norway Director General Lars Kobberstad noted the importance of evolving regulations to enable new technologies and ensure safe testing. The aircraft’s journey began in Shannon, Ireland, passing through multiple European countries before arriving in Norway, demonstrating broad international cooperation. The timeline for zero-emission aviation adoption is ambitious. Will the industry and regulators be ready to integrate these emerging technologies at scale? The Air Ambulance Service’s Dr. Matthew Wyse & Paul Mullins named Warwickshire Changemakers 2025! Their airborne critical care saves lives across 5 UK counties—with zero government funding. How does £2,300 per mission impact service scalability? Can recognition programs strengthen the long-term impact of lifesaving services? Medical Director Dr. Matthew Wyse and Critical Care Paramedic Paul Mullins of the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance have been named Warwickshire Changemakers 2025 for their outstanding contribution to patient care and clinical leadership. Wyse leads the charity’s clinical strategy while continuing to serve on active missions, treating critically ill patients across the region. Mullins, with decades of frontline experience, delivers advanced pre-hospital care at the scene, supporting patients and families during emergencies. The awards, presented by the High Sheriff of Warwickshire at St Mary’s Collegiate Church in Warwick, recognized individuals whose compassion, expertise, and leadership have left a lasting mark on the community. Celebrations included a town procession and garden party at Warwick Castle. The Air Ambulance Service operates without government funding, relying entirely on donations to sustain its critical missions year-round. Recognition can raise public awareness and support for emergency services—yet it does not address ongoing challenges in funding and operational sustainability. Can community honors truly help secure the resources these teams need for the future?
