Understanding the AUSTRAC AML/CTF Proposed Rules Mean for You? Craig Treder offers his insights into the recently released AUSTRAC AML/CTF Rules for consultation, following the passing of the AML/CTF Amendment Act 2024 which will bring major changes by July 2026. Key areas, for law and accounting firms, included in the rules were: 📍 Designated Services: Law firms are expected to provide a high number of designated services, whereas accounting firms will be less impacted. 📍 Client Identification: Client Due Diligence (CDD) or Know Your Customer (KYC) the Australia chosen definition, are what was expected and have been well defined. 📍 Client Risk Profiling: This part of the KYC process is often the most uncomfortable for law firms, however the proposed rules make what must be understood very clear. 📍 AML/CTF Program: You firm's Risk Assessment, AML/CTF policies, processes and controls are overall largely what was expected from AUSTRAC.
