The Nordic electricity system is facing significant challenges over the coming years. Firstly, we need to transition further towards renewable sources and retire all remaining fossil generators. Secondly, we need to ensure that the retirement of fossil (and possibly also nuclear) units will not lead to power shortages or frequency disturbances. Thirdly, we need to ensure that the best available technologies are deployed to solve the problem. Investments are needed. In Centrica, we are proud to be part of the solution with our investment in more than 100 MW of battery storage capacity in Sweden. With the improvements and harmonization of electricity markets, through Picasso joint procurement of aFRR, trilateral mFRR cooperation and improvements of intraday capacity allocation mechanisms, we are more than ready to play our part in ensuring that the transition happens smoothly with Centrica Energy's multi-market optimisation solution. It will mean that the Nordic electricity grid will be able to connect even more cheap and green energy and accelerate the retirement of the remaining fossil units. #energizingagreenerfairerfuture

Energy is and should be at the forefront of European decarbonisation Henrik Tegnér Tegner and I wrote an opinion piece for Dagens Industri on what truly needs to happen for Sweden and Europe as a whole to reach its decarbonisation goals. In summary, our mains points are on: 1.       Policy: Setting clear directions and sector-specific strategies to phase out fossil fuels. 2.       Financing: Utilizing financial incentives effectively and reducing costs, for example through a global carbon price. 3.       Innovation: Scaling up existing technologies and driving down costs for solutions like hydrogen and offshore wind power. At this week’s Nordic Business Forum, Mario Draghi essentially made the same remarks. His points from the recent Draghi report, emphasised the need for effective policies, increased investment and innovation to ensure Europe’s competitiveness. So we all have some homework to do. The decision-makers across all levels in Europe to make the tough calls to truly decarbonise our energy systems, for the industry to make those investments into new technologies and decarbonisation solutions and for us in the industry to make them cost-effective and innovative. Summer vacation is closing in for many of us in Norway, and like last year, that's also when Aize welcomes a new group of summer interns. This year we have 10 students joining us for 6 weeks in our new offices at Aker Tech House 🚀   The students will be divided into two teams and spend their time tackling the following challenges: 🤝 Coollab: Enable multiple users to collaborate in the 2D/3D surfaces synchronously 📃 DocuMentals: Enhance the efficiency and accuracy of generating RegEx configurations used to extract tags from documents.   Like last year, we asked all of Aize to think of relevant cases. Out of the many suggestions we got, we managed to narrow it down to two that are highly relevant for Aize and give the students a chance to work on challenges they actually could have faced if they were permanent employees in Aize.   I really believe in giving the students an experience that resembles the Aize experience as accurately as possible. On the one hand, it gives Aize unique insight into how the students actually handle challenges they could face as a permanent Aize employee. On the other hand, it gives the students a unique insight into how it's like working in Aize. So, essentially allowing both parties to be really well informed, and uniquely positioned to make a good decision when we start talking about permanent employment at the end of the internship.   Really excited to see what this group of talented students will be able to achieve in six weeks! New day - new interesting panel discussion.    Yesterday, I was invited by the Swedish Ministry of Climate and Enterprise to participate in the Nordic conference on electricity market development and electrification, and be part of panel including also Lina Håkansdotter (Palm), Martin Johansson, Michelle von Gyllenpalm and Bård Standal. The panel was led by Markus Wrake    Our panel discussion focused on electricity market design and which policies that needs to be considered to achieve large scale electrification of the society. Here comes my assessment on what is needed:  1. The availability of sufficient affordable and secure supplies of carbon free electricity is essential if the Nordics wants to attract industrial investments while safeguarding the welfare of our households.  2. A balanced combination of all carbon free energy sources delivers the best electricity system - at lowest cost.  3. The nordic electricity markets needs an upgrade and a capacity mechanism could be a feasible way forward in order to incentivise new well needed capacity while keeping market and price signals in place.    #EnergyTransition #ElectricityMarkets #Sustainability #Fortum
