We have signed an agreement to sell Enerfín’s activities in Canada to Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure Ltd. The transaction includes the experienced Enerfín Canada team, two operating wind farms (236MW), and a 0.8 GW development portfolio 🌬️ “The deal confirms that Enerfín built a skilled team and attractive portfolio in Canada. We are looking forward to watching the business grow under new ownership,” comments Barbara Flesche, EVP Europe. The signing also marks that we have successfully agreed to sell the last of the planned divestments of our Enerfín portfolio in countries outside Statkraft’s core markets. 👉Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/drF9qUd2

We’ve just passed Wind… Day. Global Wind Day, specifically (it was yesterday). Aaaaand since wind is a pretty big part of our world, we’ll celebrate by writing a few reasons why we like wind (even though we understand not everyone likes wind as much as us). Ok, a few reasons we’re big fans (geddit?) of wind energy: 👉 It’s affordable: onshore wind is now less than half the price of coal. In fact, a report by Cambridge University projected that ‘hitting the current national 2030 quotas for solar and wind energy could reduce the volatility of electricity markets by an average of 20% across 29 European countries’ (Our World in Data, University of Cambridge) 👉 It’s a grower: the first ever commercial onshore and offshore wind farms were built in 1980 and 1991 respectively. Wind energy has come a long way since then: in 2024 alone 117 GW of new wind capacity was added globally (Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC)) 👉 It’s a downer – in a good way: on- and offshore wind costs have come down significantly since 2010. Onshore wind energy’s levelised cost of electricity (global weighted average) alone in that time has dropped from $107 to $33 per MWh (Ember) 👉 It’s a jobs-machine: the wind industry contributed 300,000 jobs in the EU in 2022. Under targets set by REPowerEU, the European Commission estimates that number to grow to 936,000 by 2030 (European Commission) 👉 It’s getting smarter: repowering (where old wind farms are upgraded with fewer, more effective turbines) is becoming more common in countries where wind has been around for a while. In Spain, for example, repowering of the Montes del Cierzo farm will see 44 old turbines be replaced with just 14 new ones while generating more energy than before (Statkraft Spain). 👉 It’s a cleaner option: over its lifetime, wind produces significantly fewer emissions than any fossil fuel competitor. In May in Ireland, for example, wind power prevented more than 15,000 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. That’s equivalent to the annual emissions of >10,000 ICE cars and nice news for the air we breathe (Statkraft Ireland). Is wind technology today absolutely 100% perfect? Nope. Nothing is. But we won’t stop working to make it an *even* better solution. That’s the exact reason we have individuals, teams, departments, and projects working with improving how wind works across waste, biodiversity, community engagement, repowering and loads more areas to make sure that wind energy is the right energy for people, for places, for prices, for the planet. Thanks, wind.
