On September 5, Dutch Ministry of Defence (MINDEF (NL)) unveiled a new Defence White Paper, outlining plans to reinstate a national tank battalion. This move comes as part of a broader effort to bolster the Netherlands' defence capabilities in response to evolving security challenges. According to the document, the Dutch Armed Forces require an investment of EUR 24 billion over the coming years. The funding is necessary as the current military forces are deemed insufficient to actively contribute to deterring potential adversaries of both the Netherlands and its allies. Among the proposed initiatives is the formation of a tank battalion, likely equipped with German Leopard 2A8 tanks manufactured by KNDS Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG. The battalion is expected to consist of approximately 50 tanks (estimated between 44 and 58 tanks, plus specialist vehicles) and around 350 soldiers. The cost of forming the unit is projected to be between EUR 260-315 million annually over the next fifteen years, totalling EUR 3.9-4.725 billion. These costs encompass personnel, operational expenses, and the creation and maintenance of necessary infrastructure. AEC Skyline and Top Aces Inc. Awarded Dutch Commercial Adversary Air Training Contract Today, at the NIDV - Nederlandse Industrie voor Defensie en Veiligheid Exhibition Defense & Security (NEDS) in Rotterdam, NL, the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF), awarded AEC Skyline and Top Aces a framework agreement for the provision of advanced Adversary Air (ADAIR) training services. Beginning January 1, 2025, the AEC Skyline-Top Aces team will significantly enhance the training experience for the Netherlands’ Air Combat, Air Mobility, and Defense Helicopter Commands under a proof of concept (PoC) scheme. The Netherlands, like many other European NATO member countries, require a highly sophisticated training opponent to challenge its F-35 equipped 5th Generation fighter squadrons. The same requirement applies to the RNLAF’s helicopter and fixed-wing transport units. Possessing 3rd and 4th Generation ADAIR platforms capable of replicating near-peer threat aircraft, the AEC Skyline-Top Aces team will also provide related Advice and Assistance (A&A) as well as Concept Development and Experimentation (CD&E) support. The collaboration between both companies began in early 2023. Since then, they have participated together in the major combined air operations exercise “Frisian Flag”, led by the RNLAF, among others. Later that year, during NEDS 2023, AEC Skyline and Top Aces officially announced their partnership, unveiling an exclusive teaming agreement for the joint provision of advanced defense training solutions in the Low Countries. “Since partnering with Top Aces, our goal has been to enhance the quality of training for F-35 operators,” stated Mr. Stef Have, CEO and Managing Director of AEC Skyline. “We are eager to begin delivering on this promise for the Dutch customer under this new PoC scheme.” The open architecture nature of Top Aces’ proprietary Advanced Aggressor Mission System (AAMS) allows its F-16 and A-4 Advanced Aggressor Fighters to carry high-end sensors such as active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, infrared search and track (IRST), as well as many other advanced upgrades that replicate modern threat capabilities. Top Aces’ offerings complement AEC Skyline’s contracted air training for the Dutch and other armed forces, which utilize the Learjet 36A, GA8 Airvan, and its upgraded L-39 Albatros aircraft. 🇳🇱⛴️🤩 The Royal Netherlands Navy’s new combat support ship has arrived for final outfitting at Damen Naval shipyard in Vlissingen-Oost. The future CSS Den Helder (A834) departed from Damen’s Galați shipyard in Romania, successfully completing sea acceptance tests and simulated emergency scenarios en route to the Netherlands. It will undergo final enhancements prior to its handover to the Dutch defense ministry’s Materiel and IT Command (COMMIT) by spring next year. “CSS Den Helder is the second tanker besides HNLMS Karel Doorman, and we really need it for the Royal Netherlands Navy’s permanent supply capacity,” said COMMIT Project Manager CSS captain Joost Meesters. #military #army #defense #defenseindustry #shipbuilding #netherlands

A Critical Question for the Aviation Industry about Aircraft Engineers,KIWA,Netherlands The recent actions by KIWA and ILT, Netherlands,which have effectively invalidated the the Aircraft maintenance engineer’s license,raise serious concerns. Airlines and MROs must step up and question these authorities to seek clarity and ensure accountability aircraft were certified by the engineers…. If the type ratings are indeed deemed invalid: 1. Should the aircraft airworthiness certified under these licenses be grounded? 2. Does this mean that the work previously certified is now considered unapproved? 3. What does this imply for the safety and reliability of aircraft that have already been serviced or certified by these engineers? This situation is not just about individual aircraft engineers but about the operational integrity of the entire aviation system. It demands immediate answers to critical questions: • Are the suspensions or invalidations of these licenses justified?By which ground authority approved the license • What impact does this have on previously certified aircraft? • How can this issue be resolved to ensure fairness and operational safety moving forward? The silence of airlines and MROs could inadvertently imply acceptance of these actions. It is vital for MRO to engage proactively to protect airworthiness of aircraft and safety of the passengers in the aviation industry. The aviation community must unite to demand transparency and accountability about KIWA,Netherlands.

📣TNO are participating in Naval Damage Control 2024📣 I'm pleased to reveal that TNO will be joining us for the 9th edition of Naval Damage Control taking place at the end of next month in Southampton! Rogier van der Wal and Rachiel de Boer will be co-presenting and delivering a presentation within our conference session titled 'The Challenges Of Lean-Manning Uncovered'. Their presentation is covering 'Simulation of damage control for lean manned warships'. Lean manning is one of the most pertinent topics within the damage control sector with navies looking to increase the amount of automation technology onboard their vessels whilst reducing crew numbers at the same time. This trade-off has a significant bearing on how navies conduct damage control if a potential incident occurs.
