I'm pleased to share our latest paper published in 𝐴𝑢𝑡𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 that presents a method to automatically create an exhaustive list of geometric QC tasks to be conducted during construction given the design/construction BIM model as input. The method employs graph representation and graph matching, and embraces #OpenBIM (#IFC #bSDD). We demonstrate it with three real case studies, including building and rail infrastructure projects, with geometric specifications encoded from the EN 13670 (execution of concrete structures) and EN 1090-2 (execution of steel structure) standards as well as other relevant industry sources. The list of QC instances outputted by the method can be used as-is (spreadsheet) by QC surveyors and managers, or can serve as input to automated/robotic QC execution technologies. This work was conducted with Martin Bueno Esposito as part of the Cogito-project. The paper is available in #OpenAccess.

We published this book via Taylor and Francis publisher to present specific complicated and puzzling challenges encountered for application of the Finite Element Method (FEM) in solving Structural Engineering problems by using ABAQUS software, which can fully utilize this method in complex simulation and analysis. Existing components has some limitations so we decided to build our own to speed up beam reinforcing process and improve quality of model. Thanks Liene Madžule for co-developing the code. ❎ This code covers most common cases and the following features: ▪️ All Tekla concrete beam profile types and subtypes. ▪️ Cutouts in ledges and supports. ▪️ Main bottom reinforcement 3 rows. ▪️ Main top reinforcement 2 rows. ▪️ Stirrups/inner stirrups adapting to support types. ▪️ Ledge reinforcement (none, one, two symmetrical or unsymmetrical). ▪️ Shear reinforcement at supports: various reinforcement patterns and control over each beam end. ▪️ Adaptive surface reinforcement where it is necessary. ▪️ Semi-automated rebar placement to reduce tedious rebar positioning works. #grasshoper #Tekla #parametricdesign

🔩 Analysis of Column Web Shear Stiffening in Steel Connections by Dlubal Software! 📚 The impact of the column web panel in shear on the overall resistance of a steel connection can be substantial, necessitating additional stiffening of the column web. This analysis discusses the influence of various column web stiffening types and their effectiveness in reducing plastic deformation in the column web panel subjected to shear forces. The following stiffening options will be compared: ➡ Horizontal stiffeners ➡ Supplementary plate ➡ Morris stiffener ➡ V-stiffener ➡ N-stiffener 👉 The comparative assessment of these stiffening alternatives will be conducted using the #SteelJoints add-on in the #RFEM program by #DlubalSofware.
