Valuable insights during the #Elaad #V2X conference in Arnhem on #EV #smartcharging; here are my take aways: 👆It is still early days, but investment in V2G capabilities and cross border harmonization efforts are progressing; 👆Anticipated growth to 36M EVs in EU 2030, of which 10M in Germany (#PwC research) 👆High Voltage/Mid Voltage grids already face congestion in most of NL, will increase due to increasing electrification of households 👆V2G holds a solution for grid congestion & business case for end users; V1G (dynamic /‘grid conscious’ charging) has a large untapped potential, and can be complemented by discharging of EVs in the grid (V2G) 👆Spreading intraday (dis)charging can reduce peak loads by 27% (dynamic smart charging+V2G) Smart charging in NL is mostly supply driven (DSO>CPO's), no price incentives for end users (except home charging cases incl. electricity contract with dynamic tariffs); In addition, EV drivers discharging now face double taxation, which needs to be changed 👆To enable free #eMobility movement across the #EU, discharging needs to be facilitated in the #RfG netcode > requirements are being drafted and discussed by the EU DSO expert group 👆Municipality of #Utrecht is already applying smart charging since 2019 due to net congestion; 100 MW out of 235 MW capacity needed in Utrecht in 2030 can be solved with V1G (dynamic smart charging), V2G is a big promise in addition to limit future #grid capacity investment 👆Car manufacturers start offering end2end V1G & V2G solutions incl PV, home charger, home batteries , dynamic energy contracts & smart charging enablement via app (in cooperation with partners)
