we discovered something really interesting last month one of our customers saw a huge improvement in the quality of their demo bookings after implementing PLG. we had a gut feeling this was the case for a while, but now we’ve seen the results first-hand: demo > close rate 2023 (pre-PLG): 15% — 1 in 7 demo > close rate 2024 (post-PLG): 29% — almost 1 in 3 we also found nearly a 90% correlation between qualified demo bookings and activated users so… if your VP of Sales is pushing for “more pipeline” by going back to book-a-demo CTAs, maybe pause for a bit and run the numbers. product activation and timely engagement based on user behaviour might be the real driver you need. We wrote a quick guide with 6 steps to focus on to boost pipeline with better product activation: 1. Segment users properly: Not every signup is your ideal customer. Identify high-intent users who engage with core features or hit milestones within their first week. These are the people most likely to convert. 2. Personalise the onboarding journey: Tailor the onboarding experience based on user behaviour. Deliver feature tips or educational content that aligns with their goals, not just a generic overview of your product. 3. Offer in-app nudges: Use well-timed engagement and in-app prompts to push for an onboarding call when a user reaches a key activation point. This could be completing a specific action or hitting a feature milestone. 5. Automated email sequences: Build email campaigns tied to their product usage, offering users assistance with the next step. Give them the option to book a demo, but ensure you've assisted them and delivered an aha moment/value first. 6 Combine product and sales data: Equip your sales team with product usage insights combined with sales data. This enables them to identify key ICPs, tailor outreach, and personalize demo experiences using real user behaviour, making the conversations more relevant and effective. And the most important: 7. Align the goals of your product and sales team: Ensure both teams work toward the same goal — driving product-qualified leads to demos. Shared KPIs like activated leads to demo conversions ensure both teams pull in the same direction. Once you have alignment between product activation and demo requests, the feedback loop between teams is crucial to refining your approach and driving even more conversion for both teams. 💥Boom! Popular Sales Intelligence tools just got outlawed. Here's the inside scoop... We're talking about the likes of Lusha, Zoominfo, Apollo and more. Why? Where? Let's dig in... The Netherlands just pulled the plug on them. And this might be a domino effect across the European countries. Here's the essence of it 👇 The AP, the Dutch Authority for Personal Data, laid out stringent new rules few days ago related to data scraping. I pegged this in my book, Sales Tech, hinting that ethical dilemmas could lead to a ban on such tools. Now, it's a reality in the Netherlands. What this means for you? For B2B companies relying heavily on sales intelligence tools, navigating these tight regulations will be tricky. In a nutshell, sales intelligence tools just got booted out in the Netherlands, and the wave might sweep across Europe soon. While this is fresh and the actual impact is yet to be felt, I'd love to hear from experts in my network who can share their insights on this development. My advice? If you use these tools, alert your compliance officer. It's a necessary step. And for those contemplating investing in these tools, it might be best to hold off for now. Are cold emails dead? Over the last 3 months, our small team acquired 30 webshops through a channel many considered dead: Cold emails. During the predictable revenue boom, cold emails initially worked well. However, as everyone jumped on the bandwagon, inboxes got flooded, and the success of cold emails took a hit. Still, for a cash-strapped startup like ours, cold emails remained one of the cheapest ways to experiment. Here's our playbook: 1. Focused ICP We narrowed down our ICP to understand their exact characteristics. It's a common move, but it kept paying off. 2. Avoid being "salesy" We ditched the numbers, salesy language, and aggressive CTAs. Instead, we wrote like a friend with a great idea to share. 3. Create awareness - let the prospects do the research We skipped the product pitch in emails. Instead, we created awareness by talking about pain, value, and opportunity. Still, prospects did their research before meetings, knowing exactly what we offer. 4. Local language We always write to people in their own language. Danish companies in Danish, Swedish companies in Swedish - and so on. 5. Short subjects No fancy sales subject lines. Just short and sweet, sometimes just one word, to grab attention. 6. Data-driven approach We closely analyze data from email campaigns, conduct A/B tests, review open rates, assess click rates, and evaluate conversion metrics. All our decision-making and optimization is based on data. It's 2024 and people are tired of being sold to everywhere. Creating awareness and getting inbound interest is the goal of commercial leaders, but ads, SEO, and partnerships are an expensive and long-term strategy. Using cold emailing as a cost-effective alternative to create awareness might be the way to grow, especially for startups.

Everyone uses software daily, but most don’t know they could be creating custom software that fits their business. Just because you can build custom software with a platform like Gilde, it doesn’t mean you should. I spoke with a prospect yesterday who was debating whether they should build it themselves or have it built for them. Here’s what we covered: 1. Think about your tech skills: If you’re not sure you can build the app yourself, getting professionals to do it might save you headaches and time. 2. Look at your budget: DIY is often cheaper at first, but remember to factor in the cost of your time and potential slip-ups. 3. Consider your timeline: Getting it built by an Expert usually takes about 4 weeks. Learning an entirely new platform might take longer. 4. Think ahead: What might you need in the future? Will you want to connect with other tools like your CRM? You might need more advanced options down the line. 5. Check out middle-ground options: Some platforms offer a “we’ll build it, then you run it” service, where you can make small tweaks after they hand it over. There’s no perfect answer for everyone. The best choice depends on your needs, resources, and long-term goals.

It affects not only the product, but also sales and marketing, as well as post-sales operations and customer success teams. This deficiency in customer centricity creates internal issues across various parts of the organization, it impacts your customers directly. 👎 Throughout the years we helped dozens of companies, and too often organizations wrongly believe that customer centricity is only about talking with customers or soliciting their feedback. While communication with customers is essential, it does not inherently make an organization customer-centric. ✅ Firstly, many customers do not really know what they need, as evidenced by low response rates to open-ended questions in CSAT or other customer surveys. ✅ Secondly, not all customer requests are feasible or beneficial for the majority of your customer base. 👍 True customer centricity involves putting the customer at the heart of your business and its decisions. It focuses on helping customers achieve their goals, rather than prioritizing the organization’s objectives. It aims to add genuine value to as many customers as possible, ensuring ease of contact and a seamless customer experience. ❌ Transitioning an organization to a customer-centric mindset is often perceived as a complex and slow transformation, requiring extensive structures and processes. However, the most successful customer-centric organizations do not rely on massive overhauls. ❗ Instead, they begin with a compelling vision, which is embraced and promoted by the senior management and board.
