This limits renewal and innovation. Cooperation between different healthcare organizations is also less efficient. Patients themselves have limited control over their own data. As a result, healthcare organizations are, as it were, still hostage to data and outdated EHRs. They often still have their own EHR that is specifically adapted to the organization and often intertwined with the system that supports the healthcare processes. With the Dutch Integraal Zorg Akkoord, which was drawn up last September in mind, these different care packages are now still being linked together. In practice, however, this is proving difficult, costly and not sufficiently scalable for what the sector needs to be future-proof. openEHR (open Electronic Health Record ) is an internationally embraced standard for building healthcare IT systems. This technical specification describes a way of storing, retrieving, and exchanging medical data without depending on healthcare system vendors, and can support multiple exchange standards (e.g. HL7 FHIR). I was honored to deliver the keynote at ICT Media 's Innovation Summit. It felt like a homecoming party hosted by the great networker Rob Beijleveld. Please find below the summary of my speech: A completely different way of thinking   Meanwhile, the age-old principle of connectivity through yin and yang remains leading. Jeroen Tas explains why and how this calls for a perspective shift. Everything is connected, and everything flows faster than ever! A business model focusing too much on market share and efficiency explains war metaphors like beating the competition, rallying the troops, and firing underperforming employees. The pipeline model versus the agile platform model. And what if IT in your organization works agile, but the rest of the organization does not? Then, your digital transformation fails.   Human needs are infinite, and technology, content, and data are abundant. Tas introduces twelve needs-oriented ecosystems. He advises moving towards an open network organization that works agile, continuously processes feedback, and keeps experimenting. All employees must see what the customer wants and feel what is needed. The paradigm is not about controlling the value chain but about contributing value to addressing evolving user needs.   Platforms drive the many-to-many engagement between participants in what might be called a ‘virtuous value vortex’: the more participants and the better the interactions, the higher the value and growth. Data is the engine of your insights. Find out how to bring users and producers together in a seamless experience. Keep It Simple, Stupid: the easier it is and the better it fits your users' routines and workflows, the better your engagement. Just look at the 1-Click Amazon service, where everything comes together around the measured need of the user.   The crux is the layered approach: change happens faster at the Edge, but the slower Core will learn from the speed demon in the spotlight. It will selectively integrate those learning points. As an organization, you must set the direction and translate what you believe into what you do. Design principles can guide you there. Pipeline brands like Lego and John Deere have this right and can, therefore, compete with the ecosystem-oriented Amazons of the world.   Transition, at its best, has the rhythm of waves. Waves come in sets of three. It starts at the core, returning to basics like Lego did and ensuring a solid foundation. Then, pivot to your customers and serve them with evolving solutions based on extensive feedback. The next pivot is towards becoming an ecosystem player, where a new mindset will be needed that no longer only looks at transactions but also at customer lifetime value, grounded in speed and innovation. You have to combine the Core's rigor with the Edge's speed. The Yin and Yang. 'Technologies like AI are the ultimate ingredient for this digital transformation,' concludes Tas.
