‘Firstly, a word of warning. If you are looking for a technical person who follows everything others have done and presents no new fresh ideas, you won't find that here. If you are looking for off the wall, seat of your pants, change the world ideas. Read on. I worked with Bob on a challenging e-commerce programme that looked to replace an ageing Oracle platform. What could have been a mundane cost saving only like-for-like approach, was something clever, innovative and original, that aimed to replace the old platform as needed, but provide additional benefits (outside of cost savings) in a revolutionary custom platform that would provide futurebility, cost control and an improved user experience. I wish I could describe the detail for you, but alas it was all too clever for me. Bob is a Steve Jobs type. You won't always know where he is going, but the destination you get to will exceed all your expectations. If your brave enough, employ him.’

What are the most common pitfalls when aligning your product vision with company strategy?
Although I certainly agree with this when your product matures and evolves. When starting something from scratch, you need to have a vision and it might take time to make other people see that vision too. People can't tell you what they don't know. Steve Jobs said: “Some people say, "Give the customers what they want." But that's not my approach. Our job is to figure out what they're going to want before they do. People don't know what they want until you show it to them. That's why I never rely on market research. Our task is to read things that are not yet on the page.”

What are the most common pitfalls when aligning your product vision with company strategy?
At some point, you'll hit a fork in the road. Should we go left, or right? You might want to go left, but you’re unsure: what if you're wrong? Circling around this question results in a lack of clarity for your team because everything revolves around going left or going right. What I do is this: 1. Look (again) at the data; what do users and customers tell you? 2. Look ahead of the data: Who are you hiring, and what do you tell people about your business? What's the vision? Anna Wintour is quoted as saying: "Data can't tell you everything, You can't develop an audience through data; it comes through the creative talent. If you speak with passion and authority, people will listen — and an audience will find you.” Now just pick and 🚀🌕

I was granted two scholarships (by the Berklee World Tour and the Fulbright Center) to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston. During my time there, I mostly focussed on composition with music and new media (i.e., software) and modern classical music.
