  • 🇨🇦 New Front Of Pack Label in Canada! 🍩 This label helps consumers to recognize those foods that are high in: ➡️ (saturated) fat and/or ➡️ sugar and/or ➡️ salt. 🏋 It is of key importance to develop a healthy lifestyle and reduce the risk of getting a Non-Communicable Disease (NCD), like ❌ diabetes, ❌ heart and coronary disease and ❌ cancer. #transparency #traceability #health #FOPL #NutriScore

  • 🍓 How to reduce waste with a smarter food supply chain? 🚛 Please find below DigitalFoodLab's trends mapping of solutions that improve the efficiency of the supply chain? 🍋 🌍 In TITAN Project EU we have two FoodTech pilots addressing food waste: 👩🍳 TotalCtrl: with their powerful inventory management system, you can make huge strides in reducing food waste while optimizing your kitchen operations, 📱 Consentio: The seamless trading platform for fresh produce. Make every transaction smooth and efficient with your trusted partners. #traceability #digitalization #foodwaste

🚛 Can we reduce waste with a smarter food supply chain? As 40% of all food is never eaten and never leaves the farm or the factory (15% never leave the farm in the UK, and 16% in the US), what can we do to improve the efficiency of the supply chain? Below is DigitalFoodLab's trends mapping of the different key ecosystems shaping the future of the supply chain with : 🧑🍳 Digital restaurant: a very mature category which comprises all the tools and services that help restaurants to digitise, from their relationship to the consumer (online bookings, online operations with players such as Flipdish) to the management of the kitchen (recipes, stocks,…) to payment services (Toast) . ♻️ Food waste management with solutions to minimise the quantity of food waste throughout the food supply chain, from farm to restaurant (with connected bins such as Winnow) to grocery stores (with order management tools like Afresh). ☁️ Digital Supply Chain: after a phase of focus on traceability and transparency solutions focused on using blockchain solutions, this ecosystem is “re-emerging”. Now, the main focus is on tools that help large food companies map and understand their direct and indirect emissions and hence are linked to carbon credits. 📦 Smart Packaging: solutions that reduce waste, improve product shelf life, protect produce against diseases, and promote a clean way to create food packaging with less plastic. One key category is using biodegradable and edible sprays applied on fresh produce to increase their shelf-life (such as Apeel). 📱B2B Marketplaces, or new supply players, are startups that use digital technologies to offer an alternative ordering service for restaurants or retailers. This ecosystem is developing in parallel but with stark differences in developed economies, where the focus is on disintermediation, and in developing ones, where it is more about setting up an infrastructure and a way to supply the millions of corner shops. 👉 You want to learn more about the trends shaping the future of food. • 📣 Highly relevant study! 🌴 Implementing the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) in Colombia’s coffee and palm oil value chains requires clear traceability actions, verification steps, and risk management. 🌍 A new study, conducted together with Resilience BV and commissioned by the Netherlands Embassy in Bogotá, outlines essential strategies for compliance. #traceability #deforestation #coffee #Colombia #EUDR

🔍🌎 Exclusion, sustainability and fairer trade: what are the challenges and opportunities of new EU deforestation regulations in Colombia?    From December 2025, companies must prove that products entering the EU do not contribute to deforestation by meeting the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). As a result, producing countries face large uncertainties in meeting these requirements. One of these countries is Colombia, for which coffee and palm oil are key export products.    A recent Wageningen Social & Economic Research study, conducted on behalf of the Dutch embassy in Bogotá, highlights the risk of small-scale farmers—especially those lacking geospatial data—being excluded from the EU market due to high costs and complex regulations. At the same time, the EUDR offers opportunities for more sustainable production and fairer trade. However, Colombia’s coffee processing is complex, explains researcher Maria A. Naranjo: “A milling plant can receive coffee from 15,000 producers, making it difficult to trace its origin”.   What is needed to comply with the #EUDR? 1️⃣ Traceability technologies can help to certify coffee and palm oil for the European market.  2️⃣ Process standardisation plays a crucial role in the successful implementations of traceability systems.  3️⃣ Clear guidelines for all stakeholders are crucial. 4️⃣ Support for farmers to overcome cost and technical obstacles.    “Implementing the EUDR will bring systemic changes and have a significant impact on major commodity-exporting countries like Colombia. While the regulation may have some negative effects, it also offers global opportunities.”   Read more about the challenges and opportunities in the report below! #Deforestation #Export #Trade

  • 📣 Exciting new study! 🚦 This research looks at how political and economic factors influenced the legal responses concerning the marketing of unhealthy food and beverages. 🧑🎓 If governments moved away from prioritizing businesses and would limit interference, it would be easier for them to introduce laws against unhealthy food marketing. 👩⚕️ Support from key institutions, individuals, and discussions could help push these laws forward. This would require strong backing for the health ministry and a committed influential opinion leader to drive the policy. #transparency #sustainability #health #kids #marketing

⚡New paper on junk food marketing to kids. ⚡How did Chile, Canada and UK progress their legislation and what are the lessons for other countries? Fiona Sing found that 'policy entrepreneurs' were influential in different ways, but the underpinning neo-liberal paradigm in all countries was an all-pervasive drag on every stage of the policy process. A paradigm shift from the primacy of protecting the commercial enterprise to protecting the rights of the child is needed if more countries are to follow these pioneering countries. https://lnkd.in/gFRavz8a

  • 🥁 Important initiative! 🇪🇺 Start-ups and scale-ups are crucial for Europe’s competitiveness. They often introduce to the market breakthrough innovative solutions capable of tackling the existing societal challenges. 💶 However, they still face barriers affecting their growth, including difficulties in accessing private capital in the EU and selling seamlessly across the single market.  🛰️ The EC has now taken the initiative to take measures that actually make it easier for start-ups and scale-ups to develop themselves and grow and as a result for the EU to be able to compete with the US. ⏰ Your input is highly appreciated!

The European Commission launched a "Call for evidence" in the context of the future Startups and scale-ups strategy! It is fundamental that small, medium and large companies operating in the circular bioeconomy share their experience, help in identifying barriers and in proposing solutions. Startups and and SMEs are at the heart of innovation in Europe and they need the right regulatory, technological, financial environment to thrive. • 📣 #TITAN pilot case: testing kids’ gaming platform in schools One of TITAN’s health pilot cases, the 360° Healthy Nutritional Habits Tool for Kids, is developing an AI-powered, gamified platform to promote healthy, sustainable eating for children and adults. To kick off the intervention, TITAN partner AZTI visited two Basque schools. Different awareness activities were carried out, the children solved collaborative challenges and used their creativity to build together ships and characters around the game.
