Coming out of AMLD - Applied Machine Learning Days  - a heartfelt thank you to our speakers and everyone who joined the track: "The Future of Oncology: Harnessing Multimodal Foundation Models for Clinical Impact". What made it special was seeing the full spectrum of AI in healthcare - from novel research approaches to concrete examples of real-world clinical implementation. We really appreciated everyone's openness in sharing both successes and challenges - this is exactly what moves the field forward. 💡 Highlights from our speakers: Fei Tang, Principal ML Engineer at kaiko.ai, provided a detailed walk-through of training foundation models on sequencing data. David van Dijk, Assistant Professor (Computer Science, Medicine) at Yale University, showed how reframing biological data analysis as a language problem opens new possibilities. Daniel Truhn, Full Professor (AI in Medicine) and Radiologist at University Hospital Aachen, traced the evolution of intelligent agents in radiology and painted a compelling picture of where we are heading. Kevin Groot Lipman, Technical Physician at The Netherlands Cancer Institute, grounded us with concrete examples of foundation model deployment in clinical settings, including key challenges and solutions. ✨ A special thank you to our co-organizers Marianna Rapsomaniki and Raphael Gottardo! We look forward to coming back next year! #AMLD2025

  • AMLD - Applied Machine Learning Days Speaker Highlight At AMLD, our colleague Fei Tang will demonstrate how foundation models can unlock insights from genomic data in oncology. Her talk explores a novel self-supervised approach that efficiently processes whole genome sequences, creating embeddings that capture crucial genomic patterns. As Principal ML Engineer and R&D Lead, Fei is developing model architectures that combine genomic information with other clinical modalities, laying the foundation for a generalist AI system in oncology and advancing our vision of personalised cancer care. 📅 When: 13th February, 09:10 - 09:50  📍 Where: Garden 5BC

  • At ICT&health last week, we presented our shared vision with the The Netherlands Cancer Institute for integrating AI in the consultation room. It was great to see so much engagement from healthcare professionals with our patient case preparation tools, which use LLMs to extract and summarize key information from referral letters and patient records. Their feedback reinforced our belief that AI should solve real clinical challenges and fit seamlessly into existing workflows. We were honoured to have NKI-AVL's leadership team - Richard Dirven (CMIO), Edgar van Zoelen (CDTO), and Harry Verbunt, the institute’s first Chief Patient Officer - highlight this collaboration during their keynote. In a dedicated session, our colleagues Nanne Aben and Veerle Struben dove deeper into our development process of the initial LLM-based use cases - just the first step toward a future where multi-modal AI can integrate insights across clinical notes, imaging, and genomics. Thank you to everyone who visited our booth and shared their perspectives. We are focused on turning these insights into better tools for clinicians.

  • Check out the new roles in our growth team!

Come work with me at kaiko! Every cancer patient's case contains thousands of data points across clinical notes, medical images, and genomic data. Bringing this information together can enable both faster decisions and discovery of new insights that can dramatically change how cancer is diagnosed and treated. At kaiko, we are developing multimodal foundation models that do exactly this - helping doctors see the full picture of each case. With a strong partnership with cancer centres like the Netherlands Cancer Institute and ongoing validation of our technology in clinical settings, we are ready to grow our impact. I am looking for two talented people to help tell our story: 📝 Technical content marketer For the scientist-writer who can illuminate complex ideas with clarity and nuance. You will help us communicate our technical progress to the clinicians and researchers advancing cancer care. 🎨 Visual designer For the designer who finds elegance in complexity. You will create clear, purposeful visuals that make our technology accessible to the medical community. Both roles are based in Amsterdam/ Zurich. Know someone perfect for these roles? DM me - coffee is on me for introducing us! https://lnkd.in/eyy2Yj5X https://lnkd.in/eqy-U3fD #hiring #healthtech #AI #oncology #designer #contentmarketer
