We congratulate Voltiris as the winner of the start- and scale-up challenge! The Dutch start-up stood out among notable entries, earning the opportunity to showcase their innovative and sustainable solutions for the Latin American horticulture market at GreenTech Americas. They have won a flight ticket to Mexico and a booth at the show. They are also able to pitch their innovation or business idea at a timeslot on the GreenTech Stage during one of the three days of the show. Voltiris provides an innovative greenhouse solar energy system that generates electricity without reducing crop yields, using spectral filtering panels and efficient 2-axis solar tracking. The system is cost-effective, easy to retrofit, and requires no building permits. The start- and scale-up challenge is a collaborative effort by GreenTech Americas, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Mexico, NBSO Mexico/Querétaro, and AVAG | Greenhouse Technology Center. 🌿 Last week, the Wageningen University & Research launched the ReThink Food Challenge. 360 participants from 50 countries - ranging from biotech engineers to aspiring astronauts - came together to start this challenge about transformative food systems and extending human life to other planets. Their innovative ideas are as diverse as the challenges they aim to solve, spanning sustainable farming, indoor cultivation, or alternative proteins. ☀️ In the face of climate change, teams are reimagining farming systems to be more sustainable and circular. One team proposed a visionary concept of carbon-negative farms where plant waste is repurposed into bioenergy, creating a closed-loop system that not only minimizes waste but also bolsters local food security. Others are leveraging precision agriculture to optimize water use and increase crop yields in water-scarce regions, ensuring that farming adapts to an increasingly unpredictable climate. ⏭️ Over the coming months, participants will refine their ideas, turning concepts into tangible solutions. Whether it’s designing climate-resilient farms, crafting nutrient-dense space meals, or pioneering protein alternatives, these changemakers are proving that the future of food is as limitless as our imagination.
