Ranganathan Research Lab

Our lab is focused on the intersection of psychiatry, neuroscience, and substance use to advance knowledge of the underlying pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia and depression, and to develop novel biomarkers and treatments. We use a multidimensional approach considering the biological, psychological, and environmental factors that contribute to these conditions. We particularly investigate the impact of cannabis and cannabinoids on mental health, factors that influence the negative effects, as well as potential therapeutic benefits in the context of psychiatric disorders.

We work to identify innovative biomarkers, therapeutic targets, and potential treatments by integrating laboratory, clinical and community-based research and through collaborations with clinicians, neuroscientists, and mental health professionals. We seek to bridge the gap between scientific breakthroughs and their practical applications. Our ultimate goal is to enhance the quality of life for those affected by these disorders and to deepen our understanding of both the complexities of mental health and the role of cannabis in mental health treatment.
