This marks the end of a turbulent journey for the state-owned company, which has faced mounting financial difficulties and failed privatisation efforts. Established in 2015 following the bankruptcy of Estonian Air, NAG was initially tasked with strengthening air links and promoting competition in the market. The company also faced operational setbacks, including the collapse of a key contract with a Swedish airline, which further destabilised its finances. That’s why we’re proud to have ended 2024 as number 9 of the world’s most punctual airlines, and as one of only two European carriers in the top 10. On Monday, we celebrated the finish of construction works at Vilnius Airport's new departures terminal (opening February 4), but we also used an opportunity to have a public say about Lithuanian Airports's updated strategy. Our aim is not just to make an incremental contribution to the country's economic growth, but to become a strategic and long-term enabler of that growth. The winter flight schedule is taking effect in air traffic today, October 27. ✈ Until March 29, 2025, at Ljubljana Airport 14 regular airlines will be offering flights on 16 scheduled routes. Compared to last winter season, flights to the hubs in Munich and Zurich will be more frequent. Lufthansa will offer a higher weekly frequency of flights to Munich, increasing from 7 to 10, while Swiss will increase its flights to Zurich from 11 to 14 per week. The strengthened connection to Zurich will also provide more convenient daily morning flights, benefiting passengers with more flexible and efficient onward travel connections from this hub. 🌍 The winter flight network will also be complemented by charter flights to 15 holiday destinations. 🏝 Between January and the end of September 2024, Ljubljana Airport served over 1,135,000 passengers, representing a 17% increase compared to the same period last year. Similar growth is expected in October. In the low, winter season, growth is expected to moderate. Slovenia is still quite a seasonal destination, as a result of which the demand for passenger air traffic is much lower in winter than in summer. Accordingly, air carriers are reducing the number of flights in the winter schedule. WIZZ AIR ENGINE TEST ✈🌐❌ There is no quick fix here - There are still 45 machines under inspection! József Váradi: Our entire fleet will be operational by 2027. In an interview given to the Polish magazine Pasazer before a business meeting in Gdańsk, the co-founder and CEO of Wizz Air Holdings spoke about the fact that 45 planes are currently grounded due to the necessary engine tests. The repair cycle is planned to last approximately three years, meaning the entire fleet will be operational by 2027. As the article reveals, they work closely with the manufacturer, Pratt & Whitney, to make this process as smooth as possible. Of course, this is a big financial burden, but we will get through this stage. We believe that Pratt & Whitney will solve all problems, although it will take time – there is no quick solution here, the president and CEO of the airline stated to the Polish magazine Pasazer. Nordic Aviation Group Files for Bankruptcy   On Monday, November 18, Nordic Aviation Group was informed by the potential investor Lars Thuesen about the intent not to proceed with privatization. Therefore, assessing the company's economic situation, the Management Board has decided to cease the airline's operations and file for bankruptcy of Nordic Aviation Group AS and Regional Jet OÜ (Xfly).   "Nordic Aviation Group and Xfly have gone through a challenging path over the past 15 months since the airline began its turnaround process in August 2023. This journey has been marked by immense efforts from the entire team to bring the airline to a new and sustainable footing," explained the CEO of Nordic Aviation Group, Remco Althuis.   Remco Althuis noted that the company takes great pride in the incredible results achieved during this process, which have placed the company on solid financial ground since spring 2024. "We have succeeded in serving our clients to the highest industry standards, as evidenced by above-average punctuality and service levels. This has been recognized by our valued cooperation partners, who have commended our team for the excellent service provided," he added.   The shareholder of Nordic Aviation Group (and its subsidiary Xfly), the Government of Estonia, initiated the process of privatizing the company late 2023. The final discussions on privatization have been ongoing during the past week, with both sides showing goodwill to reach a mutually acceptable outcome.   "However, on Monday, the potential investor informed us about his intention not to proceed with the privatization, as the associated risks were too high," explained the chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Nordic Aviation Group, Kadri Land. "Consequently, the Management Board informed the Supervisory Board about its intent to cease the operations of Nordic Aviation Group and Xfly and start the necessary proceedings to file for bankruptcy."   According to the CEO Remco Althuis, the Management Board will file for the bankruptcy of Nordic Aviation Group AS and Regional Jet OÜ according to the applicable regulation. The company has informed all its employees and cooperation partners, including the lessors of the airplanes about the intention to file for bankruptcy.    "Our aim is to hand over the aircraft Nordic Aviation Group and Xfly are using to the lessors at the first possible time, most likely during the upcoming days," explained Althuis. "This is accompanied by all relevant formalities applicable to bankruptcy proceedings, including notifying the Estonian Unemployment Fund.”
