Hiring Tip! Hire less domain specific unless strategy etc, in this age of LLMs. All Public LLMs are domain agnostic. Domain specific LLMs are also being made by domain heavy orgs. Every now and then, we need to get rid of things we don’t use anymore to free up space. In Java, this cleanup process is handled by something called Garbage Collection. Just like the kabadiwala goes around looking for items you don’t need, the Garbage Collector (GC) in Java hunts for objects in memory that aren’t being used by your program anymore. Once it finds them, it clears them out to free up memory, making sure your program runs smoothly without any memory clutter. Now, imagine calling the kabadiwala too frequently; he might start interrupting your routine. Similarly, if the Garbage Collector runs too often, it can slow down your application—a phenomenon called GC overhead. On the flip side, if he comes too late, your home will start overflowing with junk, just like memory issues in Java! 📌 Key Takeaway: Java’s Garbage Collector is like your friendly neighborhood kabadiwala, keeping your memory clean. Reinventing Stock Trading for a New India: Lessons from Nithin Kamath A few weeks back, I shared my learnings from a broken service experience with a well-known provider. The reach of that post and spark in my DMs took me by surprise. That response motivated me to write more, and this time, I’m drawing lessons from remarkable leaders. Today, I want to talk about Nithin Kamath, co-founder and CEO of Zerodha, who transformed stock trading in India. Zerodha’s name, derived from “Zero” and “Rodha” (barriers), perfectly reflects its mission: to break down the barriers to investing. Before dwelling into learnings let’s start with extract from Google search “Zerodha's profit grew 62 percent from the previous year to Rs 4,700 crore in in the financial year 2023-24, the country's leading stock broker said on September 25. The firm's revenue grew 21 percent to Rs 8,320 crore.” This journey started before 15 years. It helped me to learn few key lessons which I am sharing below. In 2010, when Nithin and his brother launched Zerodha, the Indian stock market was intimidating for retail investors- dominated by big players with hidden fees and outdated platforms. Instead of following the crowd, Nithin did things differently: Simplified Pricing: Zero brokerage for equity investments and a nominal flat fee for trading, eliminating hidden costs. Tech-First Approach: A user-friendly platform that caters to both beginners and seasoned traders. Education Before Selling: With the launch of Varsity, a free platform to educate investors, Zerodha built trust through transparency. Bootstrap and Innovate: Without external funding, Nithin focused on sustainable growth while launching tools like Kite (trading), Coin (mutual funds), and Rainmatter (fintech incubator). Key Learnings: 1. Solve Real Problems: Address fundamental pain points, not superficial ones. 2. Empower Before You Sell: Build trust through education and transparency. 3. Think Long-Term: Sustainable growth often beats rapid, cash-burning expansion. Actionable Insights: • Focus on solving customer pain points, even if it means breaking norms. • Prioritize sustainable growth over short-term gains. • Use education to empower your audience - it strengthens trust. Nithin Kamath’s journey is a masterclass in innovation, resilience, and customer-centricity. His ability to challenge the status quo and stay true to his vision transformed an entire industry.

A cryptoanalytic approach to deciphering Indus valley script by Yajnadevam I recently came across Yajnadevam's fascinating approach of leveraging information theory to crack one of the world's unsolved mysteries in deciphering the Indus script found from 4000 B.C. Summary of findings (as per Yajnadevam) - The base language of the Indus script is Sanskrit. Using this language, Yajnadevam was able to pass Claude Shannon's threshold of meaningful phrases deciphered. No other language matched. - The people of the Indus Valley civilization worshipped the presiding deity as Lord Shiva also known as Rudra. Lord Vishnu, Indra, Agni and Yama are also mentioned. - The seals and writings mostly are spiritual references as opposed to kings or politics. - Yajnadevam claims a continuity in civilization and cultural practices from the Indus to Kaushambi to Gupta periods where the language of Sanskrit remained the same but the script changed from Indus script to Brahmi to Devanagari. Indus script combined with Brahmi script has been found in Gupta period inscriptions. - Yajnadevam based on his findings refutes that Aryans brought Sanskrit and Vedic culture to India and that it was already in practice Why did previous attempts fail? - Many previous scholars tried to decipher Indus script but were not fully successful because they thought of Indus script as logographic or logosyllabic. - Iravatham Mahadevan for example looked to associate similar glyphs in Egyptian and Sumerian heiroglyphics and tried to apply those meanings in the Indus context. - Previous authors imagined a much higher number of unique symbols while Yajnadevam identified 76 allographs and that some symbols were mere variants of the same sign Yajnadevam claims seal M-1690 mentions Lord Shiva as "Yama-han" destroyer of Yama or God of death. Only those with the relevant cultural background will understand the context. Long ago a couple desperately wanted to have a child. They prayed to Lord Shiva who asked "do you want a dumb child who will live to a 100 or a smart child who will only live to 16". The couple asked for the smart child who will live to 16. The son was named Markandeya. As promised he grew up and quickly mastered the Vedas and Shastras. Unfortunately time stops for none and on his 16th birthday, Yama the god of death came to claim his life. Markandeya surrendered completely to Lord Shiva and clung to his Linga statue. Angered Shiva is said to have destroyed Yama and saved Markandeya from an early death. A possible reference of this episode in the Indus script is indeed interesting. Yajnadevam intends to publish his paper next year after refining.

Very interesting consequence of today's Microsoft Windows outage. The RBI issues an advisory. "Critical systems of most banks are not in cloud....Overall, the Indian financial sector in the Reserve Bank’s domain remains insulated from the global outage." RIP if ur selling "cloud" to Indian Banks. Including GenAI. Always think self-hosted if anything. Which is why self-hosted finetuning, safety testing and on-premises search solutions are critical. Did anyone notice MF orders placed on 21st after cut-off time or on 22nd before cut-off time are allocated with nav on 22nd night(when nav is updated and reflects market loss/profit) instead on nav which was actually before 3PM on 22nd. Since yesterday was a 2.5% gain in index looks like processing of thise orders intentionally postponed. Ppl lost 2.5% of gain straight away and profit fund house was able to sell expensive nav. This is not something happened first time. Better to make use of ETFs on these times instead of relying on MF. Zerodha SEBI

The Indian government document that "Invites Applications for Empanelment of Agencies to Provide AI Services on Cloud" https://lnkd.in/dhaT-QgA solidifies the notion of sovereign AI. Every major economy is going to mandate AI clouds for government departments and sensitive industries to be on their soil. This is going to create a massive growth of GPUaaS providers around the world, each catering to the unique requirements of their citizens. On a separate note, I was very impressed with the document. I have observed several changes over the past year, particularly in how traditional monopolies have evolved which includes 1. ChatGPT > Google Search 2. SIP > FD 3. UPI > Cash 4. In Person Coaching > Online Coaching (Byjus/Unacademy) 5. Twitter > (FB + IG) 6. Mental Health > Physical Health 7. Streaming Services > Cable TV These shifts highlight a broader trend towards digitalization, convenience, and a focus on personalized and accessible solutions in various aspects of life.

#FraudAlert My friend got arrested and this can happen with you too. A friend of mine, a small MSME owner recently faced an unimaginable situation. He wasn’t scammed in the usual way - no one just emptied his bank account (that would have been less severe than this). Scammers hacked his phone (possibly through clickbait, trojans, or other means - we still don’t know for sure). Here’s what happened: -> Fraudsters transferred money into his account from someone they had "digitally arrested." -> His account was used to receive the funds and immediately pass them to several other accounts in smaller transactions. -> My friend had no knowledge of this happening. A few days later, police arrived and arrested him. He is currently in custody. ⚠️ This could happen to anyone. 👉 Friends, stay alert. If your phone is compromised, the consequences go beyond financial loss, you could unknowingly be part of a scam and end up in legal trouble. Be cautious, stay informed, and secure your digital presence. I had previously shared a post about receiving OTPs on a number different from your primary one (link in comment). On a road trip, there will be steep ups and steep downs. In both cases, one has to use 2nd or 3rd gear. Especially during downs, using 2nd gear is a conscious effort. Life is just one long road trip. Success / Failures are just like steep ups and downs. Be a bit more conscious during steep ups and downs. Never compare with others, keep moving.

Our democracy is feudalism + Right to adult franchise. A leader can block as much fast moving traffic in Mumbai suburbs for some road show. Outcome, thousands of not millions are trapped in traffic for 5 hours. - A police officer can hit general public at its will even if he demand legitimate things -Without corruption no government work is possible. -After paying close to 40% tax on purchase of a Mid Size SUV, you can’t escape the vicious cycle of pothole roads. - You become Neta, Babu or contractor. You are set for entire life without any work and accountability. - Judicial Inconsistency is sine qua non virtue of Indian judiciary. Where jurisprudence vary as per your power and money. - Everyone looks down on other in term of social capital which derives its worth from money and muscle power. - country not able to build single city which is liveable. Fully blackpilled can’t see any hope of improvement as I am watching election discourse.
