Busy Monday: Birthday Paw-ty Conclusion

So if you liked the Birthday Paw-ty invitations, here's the rest of the "Paw-ty" ideas for you to have an awesome, fun time!

My daughter wanted to have a fairy party originally, but she has a huge love of Dogs...and Cats! She still claims to want to be a Veterinarian someday even though the sound of dogs barking still scares her (traumatic event when she was younger - and I can't blame her!). I easily convinced her to have a dog and cat party. Her eyes lit up and her facial expression indicated she was ecstatic! I already posted the invitations...but here is the rest of the party!
Here's how the day went:
We got the Dog plates, birthday hats, tablecloth, napkins & cups. (I forgot I had gotten them juice boxes - but they work well for water drinkers)! I also got the "Doggy Bags" for the little favors.

Guests arrived to a table set up with all the "fixin's" - the dog plates, cups and such and to some Dog food bowls filled with Dog Bones (Scooby Doo Graham Crackers shaped like dog bones), and little Cat food bowls filled with Fish (Multi colored Goldfish)!

We played a game of "Doggy, Doggy, where's your bone". Guests sit in a circle with one in the center that is the "Doggy" (you can play it as Kitty or Puppy too). A parent or leader gives the dog bone to one person while the other kids sing "Doggy, Doggy, where's your bone? Somebody stole it from your home! Guess who!!!" The person in the middle had their eyes closed while the other guests sing and then opens their eyes to see all the children holding their hands behind their backs. The person then has to guess who has it behind their back. That person becomes the next one in the center. We played this game until all guessed arrived and had a chance to be in the center!

We then proceed to the "Adoption" area. Each child was able to "adopt" a Dog or Cat (Stuffed animals they get to keep as their party favor). They were given an "Adoption Certificate" (with the birthday girl's "Paw Of Approval") to fill out which included giving their animal a name, birthdate, birth place, favorite food, favorite toy, etc. We then gave each child a Dog Bone or Fish shape Shrinky Dink tag to design a Name tag for the collar. We were sure to punch the hole, and then after baking we strung the "dog tags" on a ribbon for a collar.

By then the kids were hungry, so they munched on Graham Cracker Bones and Goldfish until the Pizza arrived. After eating pizza, they obviously had to have some cake! My sister made cupcakes with paw prints on them, and a special Doggy cupcake for the birthday girl! She used some of the dog bones to decorate around the cupcakes. It really came out so cute! (She's going to share some of her awesome cake creations with all you Kid Giddy readers in the near future!)

After cake, the kids needed to run off some sugar energy! They brought all their animals outside for some fresh air and played "Doggies, Doggies, please come over" in the yard! Say you slice your yard in half. On child stands in the center of the halfway mark. The other children stand on one side. The child in the center says, "Doggies, Doggies, please come over". All the children then try to get across to the other side passing the child in the middle without being tagged. Then the child in the center and any others that have been tagged, call out again "Doggies, Doggies, please come over", and do this until all the doggies have been tagged. (As above you can call out...Kitties or Puppies).

As the parents arrived, the kids were having a blast just running free in the yard. It was only 2 hours and that was plenty of time. Instead of receiving gifts, my daughter accepted dog and cat food to donate to the local Animal Refuge League.

In the "Doggy Bags" I gave the kids some little sheets of Cat stickers and Dog stickers, and some Swedish Fish! I wanted  to add in some hard candy dog bones - but couldn't find them in time. You can buy them online though! Even though they got to take home the pet, this acted as the "food for the animal" to feed them!

It really was so much fun (more fun for the kids! always stressful for the adults). Now you can have a "pawriffic" "paw-ty" too! Woof! Meow!

Busy Monday: Birthday Paw-ty

This past week while I was taking a much needed break from my bonus blog time...I was coming up with these birthday party invitations for my daughter's upcoming birthday paw-ty.

She wants to have a Puppy/Kitty party...so we came up with some fun ideas and I'll post about it after...but for now it's top secret!

Here's a preview with the cute invites!...

I used some furry pet fabric in the shape of a paw and then used some scrap leather (from when I worked at Casual Corner...I got to clear out the sample closet and was given all the samples I wanted to keep - score!). The large circle is the size of a quarter and the small ones are the size of a dime!

The front says: "We'd be dog-gone excited to have your bring your furry paws over this way..."

The inside says: You're invited to ----- 7th Birthday Party! Fish and Bones will be served for snack!" (We are having goldfish in one bowl and scooby-doo bone treats in another bowl - they are graham crackers!) So funny!

Ok- I've already said too much! More on her birthday party when it's all done! Happy Monday! -kg

Edible Wednesday: Cat Cupcakes

Good Morning on this rainy day...These Cat Cupcakes have been on my mind lately because my daughter's 7th birthday is coming up soon. I can't for the life of me - remember why I made them almost 3 years ago, but I did - and I later submitted them to Family Fun magazine for a contest. I didn't win - because it was for cakes - and this is a cupcake...Where was the love for the little cakes back then? Really people!!

For all you cat lovers and cupcake lovers out there...here you go....

You'll need - Cupcakes - yum!
3 Nonpareils per cupcake
6 - 1 1/2" pieces of Twisted Twizzlers (not as good as the real stuff - but works well here!)
2 Yellow M & M's (Yellow - are more believable - but Blue and Brown might work just as well!)
Regular Frosting (Frosting tip and bag for the nose and mouth - or a can)

Chocolate Frosting (The tube you throw in the microwave and melt the chocolate - for the eyes)

Step 1: First make the eyes - so the chocolate hardens. And then break some of the Nonpareils for the ears. I found it easier to score the back of them, which breaks them nice & easy! Then cut up the twizzlers for the whiskers with kitchen shears.

Step 2: Frost the cupcakes

Step 3: Place the whiskers and then the Nonpareils towards the lower half of the cupcake.

Step 4: Place the eyes, and poke in the ears.

Step 5: Finish with the Pink frosting to make the nose and mouth shape. (My daughter's helped with this part!)

Step 6: Enjoy!

Have a great Wednesday! Meow! -kg

Kid Giddy's Amy Butler MWM Fabric Contest Entry

Hey everyone.

It's been a REALLY long summer with my girls and that's a good thing! But on the flip side - I've spent a tremendous amount of time away from my craft room! And that is not so fun! It's a great source of stress relief for me and I miss being in there and creating when life takes me elsewhere!

When I received an email back in May, for the Amy Butler Fabrics contest using any of her Midwest Modern Fabrics, I knew I had to enter something! I know I'm not the only person in the world that can sew, so I knew I'd have to make something that would stand out from the crowd. A hard task for sure, but I was hopeful and got to work with some ideas! Quilting is not huge on my list of things I do often and I haven't gone too far into the "apparel" side of sewing. What I do best - at least for now, is come up with my "own" patterns. I dream of them. I think about them while driving and just hunker down and make it. I guess my brain works in different ways and I tend to enjoy every minute of it! What I love even more, is when my girls come into the "craft room" and craft their own shoes and clothes for their dollies with fabric and tape and we keep each other company!

I had quite a few ideas but with 2 kids home for the summer wasn't able to sit down often enough to work on them. The ideas kept coming and finally school rolled around giving me plenty of time to start and finish the projects. I am finding myself grateful to say today - I'm done! So this is what I came up with....or shall I say - this is "who" I came up with (sorry for the sunshine - it was a beautiful day!)....Turtle Crossing...Made with love.....of course!!!And these fine funny friends...I called the "3 Quarter Friends"...1 Qtr friend has not been made yet...Each "friend" was made with less than a Fat Quarter worth of fabric and is approximately 11" long! Then I made these handbags with Oval Wooden Handles that I purchased at Joann Fabrics. I've been working on my Kid Giddy Etsy site and should have some items up for sale before the end of the month...hopefully sooner! Please check back soon to see what else I've been up to! I promise it won't be 9 months before I post again!!! Thanks Amy Butler for awesome and inspiring fabrics!!!! Click here to see all the entries...including mine!
