However, the associations of HBV mediated etiologies have not been well documented. This study investigated the relationship between the three most clinically relevant IL28B SNPs (rs8099917, rs12980275, and rs12979860) with the risk of HBV/HCV infection and HCC development within Vietnamese HBV carriers. By using kinetics and allele specific real-time PCR, the study demonstrated holders of the T/G allele at SNP rs8099917 were less susceptible to HBV/HCV infection. Notably, HBV carriers with the SNP rs8099917 T/G allele were at lower risk of being transformed into HCC. Hong Kong Baptist University and Infinitus China Company Ltd signed a MoU last week to launch a strategic collaboration focused on research related to food as medicine. This partnership will establish the "Infinitus-Hong Kong Baptist University Joint Laboratory of Polysaccharide Research,” dedicated to investigating the health benefits and applications of herb polysaccharides. The first two research projects will be led by Prof. Simon Han Quanbin and Dr Xu Jun from the School of Chinese Medicine. They will explore the effects of polysaccharides derived from traditional Chinese herbs, such as Astragalus and Dendrobium, on lung immunity, as well as the potential of herbal polysaccharides in inhibiting intestinal polyp growth. Director of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency: “Influenza will peak in 1-2 weeks… Antiviral drugs are sufficient” Ji Young-mi, Commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, announced that the influenza epidemic is expected to peak in one to two weeks. This prediction follows a significant rise in influenza-like illnesses, especially among school-age children and adolescents, reaching the highest levels since 2016. In the first week of January, suspected influenza cases surged to 99.8 per 1,000 individuals, representing a 1.4-fold increase from the previous week. Hospitalizations also rose sharply from 795 last year to 1,452 this year. Director Ji noted that while COVID-19 hospitalizations are increasing, there are no unusual outbreaks of human metapneumovirus or other infections. The Commission emphasized the importance of vaccination for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, pregnant women, and children under 12. Ji also urged adherence to respiratory infection prevention guidelines as the Lunar New Year holiday approaches. FDA ENDS PAPER CFGS: HOW TO NAVIGATE MD REGISTRATION IN VIETNAM? Since January 1, 2024, the FDA has transitioned from issuing hard copy CFGs to medical device manufacturers for MD registration outside the States to issuing electronic CFGs as downloadable PDFs. Applicants now receive email notifications about the issued CFGs and how to access them instead of receiving hard copies. Access to the CFG is limited in duration and number of accesses, and it becomes unavailable once these limits are exceeded. Additionally, the information in the CFG cannot be publicly accessed through the FDA system after expiration. This change may impact registration procedures for Marketing Authorization in target markets like Vietnam. Currently, CFGs processed through notarization and legalization from US authorities to Vietnamese consular authorities are mandatory documents in Vietnam. However, with the printouts from the internet, the US notary public cannot provide confirmation. This raises legal questions about how Vietnamese consular authorities will authenticate this format and whether consular legalization will be accepted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health (MOH). Some MA applicants have submitted two types of newly "notarized and legalised" CFGs to the Vietnamese MOH's registration platform: 1. Manufacturers print colour soft copies of the CFG into hard copies, notarize them, and authenticate them through the Department of State and Vietnamese consular authority. However, this method risks rejection as the notary public only certifies the applicant's signature on the commitment letter, not the authenticity of the CFG content. 2. The applicant obtains a certification from the US Department of State stating that the attached CFG document is authentic and reliable. This certification undergoes authentication by the US Foreign Affairs Ministry and Vietnamese diplomatic authority before being sent to Vietnam. As of now, MOH Vietnam has not issued detailed guidelines for dealing with the FDA's change. The above solutions are temporary measures manufacturers proactively implement. First Subject Enrollment in GT20029 China Phase 2 Trial for Acne Suzhou, June 17, 2024-Kintor Pharmaceutical Limited (“Kintor Pharma”), announced that the Company has completed the first subject enrollment in the phase II clinical trial in China of its in-house developed androgen receptor proteolysis targeting chimera (“PROTAC”) compound GT20029 for the treatment of acne. Developed by the Company’s in-house PROTAC platform, GT20029 is the first topical PROTAC compound which has entered the phase II clinical stage worldwide. The Phase II Clinical Trial is a multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, which is designed to evaluate the efficacy, safety and pharmacokinetics of GT20029 for the treatment of acne through the adoption of GT20029 0.5% once-a-day (“QD”) and 1% QD as the drug-related dosage. The Phase II Clinical Trial involves a total of 10 clinical research centers in China, and Professor Xiang Leihong from Fudan University Huashan Hospital is the lead principal investigator. In November 2022 and February 2023, the Company respectively announced the positive top-line data for the phase I clinical trial of GT20029 for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (“AGA”) and acne in China (healthy subjects) and in the U.S. (healthy subjects and subjects with AGA or acne). The data demonstrated good safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of GT20029 in healthy subjects and subjects with AGA or acne. In April 2024, the phase II trial of GT20029 for AGA has reached the primary endpoints.
