Correct, the addition would count, but if the portion of text that has already been seen is implemented by a variable or some other way of "reusing" the same text values, that part would not count again. If the words are present only once in the code, they are counted only once.

Hello!

No, alt text or other UI/text for accessibility purposes does not count towards total wordcount.

Yes, an author's note is allowed! The 500 word limit only applies to text of the game itself. If it doesn't affect the story, it doesn't count towards your total word count.

Yes, choice text does count. UI-only elements (title screen, "about" text, instructions, links to open a settings/saves menu, credits, etc.) do not.

Code does not count in the word limit!

Hi, thanks so much for submitting to the Anti-Romance Jam!

let this undo you is temporarily removed from the submissions because of the following rule:

For the duration of the jam submission period and two weeks immediately following, submissions should be free to play/view/etc.

Once you make the edits to the game page, please let me know and I'll make sure it shows back up in the submission gallery. Thank you!

Hi! Yes, you can submit fanfiction, but donations/pay-what-you-want must be disabled on the game page (same rules as Ao3 re: monetization). Best of luck with writing and editing!

thank you so much morgan!! a deeply belated reply on my part here, but thank you so much for the kind words and for reading through. i'm so glad and grateful you enjoyed the experience of it

I'm glad you enjoy it! Thanks for the kind feedback!

Wooo, congratulations on a first final build!! I can't wait to play through and finally uncover all the mysteries at the heart of Garbuie...

Hi, you're welcome to start working ahead of the jam submission period, as long as you do not publish the piece beforehand.

Hello! This mechanic is totally fine by the rules, both in letter and in spirit.

Happy jamming!

Hi,

If you use ink, you can export to web, then upload the resulting zip folder to itch and submit. Just make sure the HTML file is named index and check the game page box to allow play in browser.

Happy jamming!

I'm glad it was helpful and you got good use of it!! Thanks so much for the kind feedback!

Thank you Kate! That means a lot, and I'm very glad the emotional range of the poem retained its poignancy through all its readings!

Thank you, Dawn!! The potential for randomness with this one was a lot of fun to set up behind the hood and I'm so glad you got some of that coincidental congruence in your readings. And yes, that's exactly what I had in mind with the L and R! Hands for playing and writing, feet for walking...the body in poetry. Thank you again for reading and the lovely feedback!

Thank you so much, KA! The shape work in this one was a real pleasure to play with, so I'm really glad you enjoyed it too.

Thank you Morgan!!

Thank you Max! I had a lot of fun with the structure and mechanics of this one, glad you enjoyed it too.

I'm not sure what you mean, but this jam doesn't have a content theme because it focuses on the mandatory dialogue mechanic. Some other Neo-Interactive jams do have content themes, but this one focuses on a game mechanic restraint, so jammers can be as creative as they want with their ideas.

The Neo-Interactives discord server is linked on the jam page! Here it is again: https://discord.gg/NP6c6aAKfK

Hi,

Excited to have you jamming with us! There's no specific theme, just the rule that all the game text must be in the form of conversation/communication between characters.

Hi,

You're welcome to start working on an entry before the jam start date!

Thank you for entering! I really enjoyed Anolelona, and really cool to see your writeup about your shuffling experience!

Hi, the length guideline is per playthrough! If your submission goes over, don't sweat it - it's more a guideline than a hard rule.

This is so delectable! I love your imagery and the way the prologue coils up so tense like a snakestrike waiting for the perfect moment to sink in. Can't wait for more!!

Thank you for joining! No apologies necessary, we're glad to have any and all entries. Neo jams are all about having fun creating stuff, Shufflecomp included. Congratulations on completing your game, and stay well!

I love your letter-game! It's really cool to see my template used for something so immersive. Thanks for using it and for sharing it here too!

Aww, thanks for joining! Glad the jam inspired you to keep learning. Hopefully we'll see another entry from you in a future jam!

Hi, TTRPG submissions are welcome!

Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoy it. ^u^

Yes, that's fine to submit! Paid projects are allowed, but anything submitted to the jam must be free to play for the duration of the jam + the two weeks immediately following the end of the submission period.

Thank you so much!! Means a lot to me - I'm glad you're enjoying it. ^u^

Hi,

Yes, you can team up however you'd like! Just keep in mind that joint-created entries count towards the total submission limit of 3 for each person on the team. Happy jamming!

Feel free to work on your game before the jam submission period starts!

Either option is fine as long as the game is free to play during the jam and two weeks immediately after the end of the jam period.

Happy jamming!

Hi there, thank you for asking! Pictures/character sprites/backgrounds are a-okay to include.

Thank you! Making this one was a very joyful process so I'm glad it sparked joy to read as well.

No worries - life happens! If you're inspired, you can always continue developing a game with your songs and earmark us in the independent release. We hope we'll see you next time!

If you're using Brave or a browser on private/incognito mode, that could be causing the error. I tested it on Chome and Firefox just now and both worked - hope you're able to play soon!

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it - that atmosphere is exactly what I was going for.

The summer of anti-romance is in full swing!

We're almost at the midway point of the jam period! To celebrate the submissions already in the gallery and encourage those in progress, the submission list is now publicly visible.

Check them out here!

Submissions are open through 14 July 2023, so keep on jamming!
