Source Control (GitHub) & GitHub Copilot

GitHub is an industry-leading hosting platform for source code repositories for the version control system Git.

This service is ideal for faculty, staff, and researchers who want to use source control for group or departmental projects. It is also ideal for instructors who want to use source control to manage student assignments and to review student work.

All faculty, staff, instructors, and researchers with a valid UW NetID may request organization (team) accounts

Students may join an organization, but cannot be organizational admins

GitHub Copilot is also available at an additional cost, and more information can be found here.

The service does NOT provision GitHub accounts. All users of the service must create or re-use their own GitHub account.

Accounts are linked to this service when they are added to a GitHub “organization” and are de-linked when they are removed from the GitHub “organization”.

Access is only allowed to current faculty, staff, and students. “Outside collaborators” may be added to repositories to collaborate with people outside the university.
