I have always been convinced that a #fashion or a #luxury brand should avoid having diva-like employees like creative directors or CEOs working mainly for their own benefit in the short term and that the Brand should be put first. This is the only way to create Brand Equity. That intangible asset so much despised by CFOs who cannot measure it but that represent the winning weapon on the market. I got to this conclusion after: - more than 20 years as a manager and top executive in key groups and brands - several years of studies thanks to my job as luxury management professor in key universities - my own research and curiosity crossing a regular brand analysis I do for my consulting job Brunello Cucinelli financial results of Q1 24 prove exactly this point. - Having a good product aligned with a powerful and consistent storytelling making the brand distinctive and unique is the only leverage helping companies to surf the ups and downs of this industry, especially in these volatile times - A company cannot recover quickly from the turmoil if they did not work well in advance in creating and nurturing a solid brand management and strategy - #talentmanagement is key and the team spirit is crucial. No divas...I remember Carla Fendi, one of the five sisters who developed Fendi had a desk in the open space with us, sharing everyday every single inspiration and thought with all of us, nobody excluded. - You can have the right mix of knowledge of brand management in fashion and luxury if you work in the industry and you study at the same time brand management applied to the industry - There is no need to launch hype, if you develop a great, robust, distinctive brand Tomorrow will be the day of the launch of my personal project. Attending the FT Live Luxury Summit in Venice was like reading the financial times, but with a hyper-focus on our sector and with the benefit of curation, discussion and perspective. Sure, you can get all the information by reading the sheets. But here, all the topics that impact our sector most are shared and discussed in a room full of the CEOs, whose opinions about the topics you would like to hear, challenge, debate and learn from. The audience and the panelists is where the most value lies in an event like this that, by the way, was delivered with precision and excellence at every turn, as luxurious as its focus market. Top 3 takeaways: 1) Become a member of the community you serve. Authenticity and integrity are integral to luxury success. It is everything. You cannot fake it. And you must be able to communicate clearly to your audience - which means always staying close to and learning from your core customers, consuming what and where they consume and contributing there. 2) ‘Slobalization’ is what you see in those decreasing numbers. Global markets are normalizing not receding after the post-pandemic buying frenzy. Japan and US are still the strongest and most appealing markets for luxury. China is slowing but it is still one of largest markets with the most growth potential. 3) AI is a tool for humans to use. Not a threat. like most technology, reactions are alarmist at first. To leverage it efficiently, you must learn new skills and methods to optimize the efficiencies it can create. If you don’t learn how to use it, it may make you less qualified than another candidate for your role. #FTLuxury

A Poetic Perspective. 💙 Now that fashion weeks, trade fairs, and showrooms are about to come to an end, it’s a good time to pose a reflection or a question to the air. Fashion is, and has always been, a powerful reflection of the times we live in. All of us (even those who claim to have no interest or think it’s the most frivolous thing in the world) communicate and build our identity around our aesthetic, always tied to symbols, values, and beliefs, which we express through jewelry, accessories, garments, colors… The first impression someone gives is visual, and if one knows how to read the subtle language of the objects surrounding them, they can learn more about that person than they sometimes know about themselves. The last 40 years of history, with the rise of neoliberal capitalism, have led us to the glorification of money, power, and the belief that anything that doesn’t produce money is worthless. When beliefs become dogmas, there comes a point where the structures that seem to hold everything together begin to crack. Think of a building from which new plants start to grow through those cracks. This is a metaphor to describe the feeling I had when seeing Paolo Carzana’s collections—poetry in an era of grand special effects. It’s fascinating how the most exciting things remain those created from within, with little or almost no budget. I encourage you all to take a look at the collection. #fashion

Cantino joined Gucci in May 2024 as Deputy CEO so now he should be ready to share what he’s gonna do with: - product strategy (Slimane?) - supply chain that very often has zero orders for end 2024 and what about 2025? - directly owned suppliers under Italian government support - retail strategy - full price vs discount strategy and outlets - 3 year plan - human resources and redundancies What’s going on there? HERE WE ARE This morning, I was asked what I foresee for the Fashion industry in 2025. The article published by #MilanoFinanza highlights a possible recovery starting from the second half of next year, focusing on the financial aspects of the sector. From my perspective, which is nourished daily by feedback from professionals in the creative, production, and distribution sectors, the outlook appears less optimistic. The ongoing crisis has already been decimating important brands and companies for months. However, what I foresee with certainty is an acceleration in the adoption of new Artificial Intelligence tools. These tools, while posing challenges for those who fail to update and adapt, will also bring enormous opportunities: cost reductions in various areas of the supply chain, coupled with a significant qualitative improvement in results across multiple fields. As #MarcoBizzarri asserts, and as valuable entrepreneurs have taught me over the years, it is precisely during the most challenging times that great successes can be achieved. This revolution, now irreversible, will radically transform the Fashion and Luxury sectors. Personally, I hope this change will also lead to a recovery in terms of image and quality, regaining what has been lost in recent times. Just wanted to share something that means a lot to me, as I have been working non-stop to keep Sendegaro growing for the last 5+ years. I'll need to get used to being more active here I guess, especially with my new venture with Kibochi. With the luxury e-com sector not being at the very best state and with high-profile businesses out there keep spending big money on paid social ads (some now even unfortunately no longer with us), I had to re-think and re-strategize not only due to the costs that kept growing with Meta but also Google Ads. It's quite evident, that its silly to even go head-to-head with other big players, especially with their marketing budgets, this was never going to be possible. We cut out all methods of paid marketing completely. This meant our strategy, in-order to be more profitable, cutting down marketing costs but at the same time, growing incredibly with our international presence has meant, the focus being more on SEO: Quality Content, Engaging Content, Navigational Setup (inbound links), Transactional Keywords. All this means nothing without creating the customer journey on the front-end to match the expectations (Easy UX, Filtering System) which is mostly linked with CRO. Targeting the correct audience that will, at the end of the day, convert and bring more sales. And I cannot stress how much SEO and CRO complement each other so much. Creating quality content and CRO strategies that benefit SEO at the same time is a game-changer. Whilst I step-back from Sendegaro, I will continue to be technically involved, whilst my new journey with Kibochi is going great, my concentration for long-term will be helping further Shopify stores and continue my SEO journey. With all the news of SGE and AI playing a major part in e-commerce, I believe it’s a great time to experiment and experience. And no, SEO is not dead and will not be any time soon! Oh and anyone that is offended with our Palestine stance (Free Palestine) and where we clearly stand, we will continue to do so :)

Empowering Women in Fashion - A Collective Responsibility On September 25, during Milan Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2023 shows, industry leaders gathered at the Bulgari Hotel to discuss empowering the female-identifying workforce. Co-hosted by BoF’s Lauren Sherman and Bulgari's Laura Burdese, the roundtable explored external activations, leadership strategies, and supply chain welfare. Despite progress, gender disparities persist. For example, female CEOs head only 2.5% of companies on the Milan stock exchange. Yet, McKinsey & Co. reports that companies in the top quartile for gender diversity on executive teams are 21% more likely to outperform on profitability. Key Takeaways from the BOF article: Authentic Activism: Companies must back public statements on social justice with genuine business practices to ensure brand alignment and retain talent. Leadership and Promotion: Addressing the promotion gap is vital. For every 100 men promoted to manager, only 86 women are promoted. Supply Chain Welfare: With 80% of fashion's global supply chain workforce being female, it's imperative to improve working conditions and support communities near factories. I'm about to launch my #fashion brand – and I'm proud that Agnese Curti will join as a co-founder. (Help us choose the first designs in the survey in the first comment) I have been really quiet in the past few months because things got really busy both with my agency, Grapefox, and with the launch of the new brand. So, here's a bunch of things about the brand: – The brand is called "Vilanera". What does it mean? Nothing. The name was empty and brandable. The ".com" domain was cheap and available and the name was not trademarked. And it sounds nice. That's it :) – We are going to sell women's bags. The reasons why we have decided to focus on this are multiple, but the main ones are: 1) Women's bags are a huge market; 2) They have lower returns compared to other items – especially dresses –, because it's less likely that people will return them because the item doesn't fit properly; 3) They have a single size, so dealing with production/stock is going to be a bit easier. – The bags are going to be produced in Italy. The first collection will be made in Florence. – There are no investors – and I don't think there will ever be. I will finance the project with my own money. For now we are going to start with around 20,000 € – then we will push to 100,000 €, if things work. – The brand is built to be profitable from day 1. We are aiming at 55-60% gross margins after returns/COGS/shipping while maintaining high quality of the bags. This will leave us plenty of room to pay for marketing/fixed costs. (the aim is not to exceed 10% fixed costs) – We will keep fixed costs as low as possible and we will be cutthroat when it comes to expenses – stock included. – We will focus on what people want and not on what we want, so we will heavily test each single design before launching it. What doesn't work will be removed. – We want to let people/customers decide what bags we will produce, so we will try to design a system to allow people to constantly vote for new features/designs. – I will try to crack the organic side as soon as possible, because paid advertising will be a walk in the park, but I don't want to over-rely on Meta/Google/TikTok ads. You will see me trying to sell women's bags with my Italian accent :) – We are starting with some basic designs and this is done on purpose. We don't want to risk with designs that are too unique. We will develop something unique later, but first we need to be profitable. – Last but not least, we launched a survey to see what designs people like and to choose the first 4 bags to launch, and we received really good feedback, actually. It is governed by strict rules defined by the “Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris”. To be classified as Haute Couture, a fashion house must meet rigorous criteria, including: - Creating custom-made garments for individual clients, using artisanal techniques. - Having a workshop in Paris with at least 15 full-time employees. - Presenting at least two collections per year with a minimum number of looks, often featuring exclusive details such as hand embroidery, premium materials, and unique designs. Haute Couture is therefore a sartorial art form aimed at an elite clientele, often celebrities or billionaires, and represents the pinnacle of creativity and craftsmanship. 2. Luxury Brand Luxury Brands are fashion and lifestyle companies that produce high-quality goods on a larger scale compared to Haute Couture. Examples of luxury brands include Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, and many others. The main features of luxury brands are: - Ready-to-wear products (prêt-à-porter), more accessible than Haute Couture’s unique pieces. - Industrial production, while still using premium materials and maintaining high design standards. - A diversified product range, including clothing, accessories, perfumes, handbags, jewelry, and lifestyle items. - A global marketing strategy aimed at building an aspirational identity and enhancing the brand's desirability among consumers. Luxury brands, while maintaining an aura of exclusivity, are designed for a broader audience than Haute Couture, often reaching younger or less exclusive market segments. In summary, Haute Couture is synonymous with art and uniqueness, while Luxury Brands represent accessible luxury for a broader high-end market. Both worlds, however, embody values of excellence, quality, and timeless style. I suggest that when you create and share fashion designs, you clearly define and attribute them to the correct category, ensuring clarity about your work and intentions. Last but not least: AI is not a magic wand that can replace proper study and knowledge. "Artisanal skills — and the artistry they produce — are at the core of ‘Made in Italy’. This centuries-old know-how is what justifies Italian suppliers’ high price points, and keeps luxury brands on their client books. But today, these skills are at risk of disappearing. According to a recent report by Italian luxury association Altagamma and the Italian Union of Chambers of Commerce, the Italian high-end fashion sector will need to hire 75,000 technical/vocational roles between 2024-2028 in order to meet projected demand.
