🤖 “Sistema 0” a new paradigm in #AI and human interaction, reshaping our cognitive and ethical boundaries. 🌍💡 In an era where artificial intelligence is increasingly integral, the concept of “System 0” emerges as a cognitive extension, an invisible assistant filtering and organizing information before it even reaches our minds. 💭🧠 This framework, recently discussed in Nature Human Behavior, adds a third layer to Kahneman’s intuitive (System 1) and analytical (System 2) models of thinking, suggesting a powerful, albeit ethically complex, model of #HumanAIInteraction. But here’s the crux: unlike human thought, System 0 processes without true understanding. 🧐 It “reads” data but lacks the capacity for meaning. According to a report by the Bank of Italy, some of the most severe labor shortages in Italy are found in the following professions: 🟣 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields: 🔹ICT specialists (information and communication technology) 🔹Engineers, particularly in mechanical and civil sectors 🔹Technicians with expertise in manufacturing and ICT 🔵 Construction sector: 🔹Skilled trades such as electricians, plumbers, and carpenters face high demand 🟢 Manufacturing: 🔹Skilled craftsmen and workers in metal product manufacturing are in short supply 🟠 Healthcare: 🔹Roles such as doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals are increasingly needed due to the aging population The paper looks at the increasing labor shortages in Italy, especially after the pandemic, and examines the reasons behind these shortages in different regions, sectors, and types of companies. It shows that the most difficulties in hiring are in northern Italy, mainly in industries like construction, manufacturing, ICT, and for jobs that require STEM skills and technical expertise. The shortages are caused by both short-term factors, like economic growth, and long-term issues, like the mismatch between the skills workers have and what employers need. Companies in sectors that need a lot of workers or are growing quickly have the hardest time finding employees. To deal with this, many companies offer higher wages, better working conditions, and more opportunities for career growth. Some companies also find that remote work helps reduce hiring difficulties. The paper also looks at the job prospects for workers in positions that are hard to fill. These workers usually have better job security, more stable contracts, and are more likely to move to different regions for work. Real or digital fake? Caller ID fake, voice cloning, AI for real time images, video, voices. If our smartphone recognizes the phone number, if we recognize voice, video and behaviour... we can be sure that we are speaking with our friend, partner, child... but we could fall in a Matrix fake. We currently live at interesting times with GenerativeAI and fast search engines. A combination of those two can be easily made and is very powerful. Imagine, that these days you can just type: “give me a list of 5 star hotels near the Spanish or Italian coast”. It can detect the filters that you need like the countries, the rating, the location and the lodging type as a starting point and provide a list of items based on your personal preferences. I am honored and delighted to have been appointed as an External Advisor to the Master's Degree Course Master in Data Intelligence e Strategie Decisionali - La Sapienza (Data Intelligence and Decision Strategies) directed by Prof. Paolo Dell'Olmo. Several years have passed since I took part in the Master's programme, and the topics covered cannot be more relevant than these days, with the hype about Artificial Intelligence that we are experiencing. When I think of my ‘rule of three’ on any project, especially AI projects: 1) Identify and accurately define the problem you want to solve or the opportunity you want to address and, at the same time, whether there is a business justification (ROI) for it 2) Identify a sufficiently rich and quality dataset to define and characterize the problem and the context 3) Identify the processing model (e.g. AI) and the necessary infrastructure and associated costs (€, CO2, etc.) well, I often see that one or more are given little or no consideration, with the result that the project fails or is not economically viable. On this subject, the analysis by Deloitte https://lnkd.in/djH6SuAt shared by Frans Dagelet is very interesting: less than 30% of #GenAI experiments go into production. The Master's programme for me was really an opportunity to refine the framework that I still successfully use today: - Carefully defining the problem and opportunity, in an outcome-driven mode, often if not always using the multidisciplinary #DesignThinking methodology - ‘Wasting’ time defining, identifying and cleaning the data that is needed. In my experience, a day spent cleaning data saves me a week in understanding why the model does not give me the desired results - Identifying computational models (#LLMs included) that optimize cost/result, collaborating with experts where and when necessary. I am really happy to share these experiences with the new Master participants and to have new insights and also the opportunity to learn from them.
