A new paper written by Riccardo Z., Luca Bacer, Davide Miotti, Enrico Nobile and Mauro Munerato, has just been published on Int. J. Heat Mass Transfer. It's titled 𝙍𝘽𝙁-𝙁𝘿 𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙝𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝟯𝘿 𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙙𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙡𝙤𝙬 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙛𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙥𝙡𝙮 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙘 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙡 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨. This study explores the heat transfer and fluid flow features of three common triply periodic minimal surfaces or TPMS, i.e. Fisher Koch S, gyroid and Schwarz D, a class of structures with promising applications in advanced heat exchanger design. By leveraging Radial Basis Function-generated Finite Difference methods, RBF-FD, the paper presents a novel approach for accurately simulating fluid flow and heat transfer in these complex periodic geometries, reducing computational effort while maintaining high accuracy. The geometric flexibility of this novel numerical approach fits perfectly with the geometric complexity of the TPMS structures, enabling automatic and accurate fluid flow simulations.
