The continuing unrest in #Haiti caused by armed gangs presents a major challenge for the country’s #education system: 919 #schools have been forced to close due to this violence. Additionally, children are increasingly being recruited into #gangs. In fact, it is estimated that 30% to 50% of armed group members are minors. #Humanitarian organizations, such as AVSI, are working to provide alternatives to keep young people out of gangs, including education and #protection activities. Read the article on Aleteia IT to hear the testimony of Makenson Leonard, a staff member of AVSI Haiti, about AVSI's initiative in the Country👇 🔗 https://shorturl.at/T0cJ5

Chi siamo
AVSI Foundation is an international non-profit and non-governmental organization, founded in Italy in 1972. With a staff of 2,116 people, AVSI is implementing 355 projects in 42 countries. Its main areas of intervention include education, agriculture and food security, child protection, environment and energy, vocational training, social development, livelihood, urban upgrading, WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene), and healthcare. AVSI works for a world where people are aware of their value and dignity, protagonists of their own integral development. In its interventions, AVSI always considers the contexts and the beneficiary’s community. In 2023, 8,667,441 people have been directly supported through the programs, 1,061,253 of whom come from contexts of war and violence. All projects are realized thanks to donations from private and institutional donors. Last year's budget amounted to €124,919,924. Among the main donors, AVSI in 2023 could count on the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the World Bank. Mistral Tour Internazionale, the leading tour operator of the Quality Group consortium, supports AVSI by endorsing its core values and contributing to the creation of both online and offline communication tools: from the "Buone Notizie" house organ, to the website, to the publication of the Annual Report.

In January 2025, the United Kingdom officially launched the Graduating to Economic Resilience project, an 18-month initiative in partnership with AVSI to support the #refugee response in #Uganda. This project aims to empower 12,600 economically vulnerable refugees and host community members living in the Kyangwali and Kyaka II Refugee Settlements in Kikuube and Kyegegwa Districts, Western Uganda, through economic assistance and coaching sessions. This partnership marks the first collaboration between the UK government and AVSI. So far, the project has supported Valeria and Emanuel in improving their poultry farming together; Vanise in establishing her own vegetable garden and raising goats. On the other hand, Chantal is now rearing pigs, chickens, and ducks for income, attributed to the financial literacy and small investment training she received, while Anastasia has learned to grow high-yield maize for both her home and for sale, due to the assistance she is receiving in the programme. Improved cookstoves are a game-changer for sustainable energy, offering cleaner, safer, and more efficient cooking solutions while reducing environmental impact. By promoting their use, we empower communities, improve health outcomes, and drive sustainable development. Energising Development (EnDev), a multi-donor partnership funded by Germany (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Embassy), the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland in collaboration with AVSI Foundation, hit the streets of Kenema, Zimmi, and Pujehun to champion clean and efficient cookstoves. This impactful roadshow focused on: ✅ Raising awareness and inspiring behavioral change toward adopting improved cookstoves. ✅ Enhancing access to clean cooking technology in rural, hard-to-reach communities. ✅ Empowering local producers and strengthening the market for improved cookstoves (ICS) in these regions. To make these life-changing stoves more accessible, the cost was reduced by 25% during the roadshow. The result? Over 420 cookstoves sold, directly to residents across these localities. 💬 What do you think are the best ways to spread awareness about clean energy in rural areas? Share your thoughts below! #CleanCooking #EmpoweredCommunities #SustainableEnergy #EnDev #AVSI #CommunityImpact

📢 Strengthening Healthcare Systems in East Africa: A Data-Driven Approach 📊 Data plays a crucial role in assessing and improving health outcomes in communities. Through the regional health program in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania funded by Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo, we are sharing best practices on how data is used to evaluate healthcare performance, with real cases from six health facilities across these countries. At our recent regional workshop in Uganda, 27 health specialists, including representatives from the Ministries of Health, gathered to discuss the impact of data-driven decision-making in strengthening healthcare systems. This initiative is already showing positive results, including a reduction in maternal and neonatal mortality rates. As highlighted by Dr. Paul Mbaka, Assistant Commissioner at Uganda’s Ministry of Health, these collaborative efforts are saving lives. By working together—governments, healthcare professionals, donors, and communities—we can ensure that every mother and newborn receives the quality care they deserve.
