It's interesting to see Deepinder Goyal's comments about this acquisition. He believes building a super brand (Zomato, Blinkit, and now District with Paytm Insider) is more important than building a super app (a Paytm-like aggregator). From a product perspective, this makes a lot of sense. You open a specific app for a specific action and don't get lost in the myriad choices an aggregator offers. The objective of doing one thing—and doing it well—always yields benefits. The larger trend of shifting focus from a simple Customer LTV to Portfolio LTV is prevalent across other domains too. Quite a few global mobile game companies have been trying to do the same. The mantra seems to be: provide different experiences through different interfaces, but tie the association to a larger brand. I wonder who else will follow suit. #zomato #blinkit #paytm

The Indian Gen AI prosumer, consumer landscape still remains early – Companies have hit power users but are subscale OR have low % of paying users  • Companies do not have enough cohort level data to indicate product love  • Most cos who have managed to cross few hundred thousand users (MAU) are building their US GTM machine  • They have a rudimentary hallucination check AND a rudimentary RLHF in place We at Chiratae ventures are keen to look at – 1) Vernacular AI assistants - Sarvam, Krutrim are foundational model (Sarvam – OpenHathi) based general intelligence assistants very similar to Anthromorphic or Poe, but contextualized to India. They have raised significant capital, but the space remains open still. 2) Vernacular AI search – We do not have a Perplexity, Liner for the Indian vernacular. This is a potential whitespace. We will look for a solid team, with a solid product roadmap. In 2014, India's average data consumption per user was just 0.3 GB/month at ₹269/GB. Today, thanks to Modi Govt's push and players like Jio, users consume 30.3 GB/month at ₹10-13/GB. Remember when we rationed data usage to stretch it for a month? Now, everyone's a legal expert, taxation guru, election analyst, military strategist and more! 😆 We've come a long way from just worrying about onion and tomato prices to debating complex tax issues like Indexation. 🚨Swiggy IPO gets oversubscribed led by QIB bids Swiggy’s IPO was oversubscribed 1.07 times by the third day, driven largely by QIBs, who oversubscribed their portion 1.52 times. Retail investors subscribed to 97% of their portion, while Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs) made bids for 22% of their allocation. Swiggy's employee quota also saw strong demand, with a subscription rate of 1.38 times. Venture capitalists and BizDateUp co-founders Jeet Chandan and Meet Jain have acquired an undisclosed stake in IPO-bound foodtech giant Swiggy through an off-market secondary deal. Founded in 2020, BizDateUp allows angel investors to invest in Indian startups with a minimum of INR 1 lakh and recently launched a INR 200 crore fund for technology investments. The firm raised over $10 million from more than 1,000 angel investors in FY24. This move comes as several celebrities, including cricketers Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan, tennis player Rohan Bopanna, director Karan Johar, and actor Ashish Chowdhry, have also invested in Swiggy ahead of its IPO. Notably, Amitabh Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit have previously acquired stakes in the company. As someone curious about how India is performing as a nation across various indicators, I have found it challenging to find relevant data in a consumable format. Multiple sources use different conventions and formats, making it difficult to access even the simplest data points. To address this, Pranav Singhania Saddam Hossain & I have built a dashboard that consolidates all the key metrics in one place, sourced from verified data providers. A significant part of the dashboard has been built using AI (V0 + Cursor + Claude). Tech Stack: NextJS, Supabase, Vercel, OpenAI Assistant for Chat.
