Up to Rs. 2 Crore (~$250,000!!) in funding for each team/startup. Truly differentiated deep-tech in AI / Robotics / Autonomous Systems deserve deep support. Note this is NOT for side, part-time projects which you do because they are cool. If you have solid research to translate into products, that's wonderful, but this will work ONLY if you are ALL IN and serious about solving real-world problems for real customers and users. Translating that research to SOLUTIONS (not just cool product or tech) that the world cares about requires a lot of humility, curiosity and elbow grease to understand needs and build a team. Even brilliant innovators with breakthrough research will have 90% of their journey still ahead of them -- a journey that is possible ONLY as a team, with many champions and ecosystem support. Continuing the FitBiz360 story..... We identified a great technical partner in India - Rage Communications. They co-created an architecture for the solution and started coding using rapid prototyping. This meant we were quality checking every module and delivery, before it was considered "live". We made what turned out to be one of our best decisions, we split the software from the content (so no content is hard coded). Why is that important - well here is an actual event: - The HR Director of Rage asked if we could run an employee engagement survey for them - Using our in-house subject matter expert on HR issues, we created a survey and loaded it within half a day. - The survey was run in the business and from start to finish took 48 Hours. The reason for 48 hours was simply the time it took over 200 people to respond to the request to complete the survey. - As soon as the last employee hit submit (well within say 2 minutes processing time) I was looking at the results and the final report - I shared this with the HR Director and he sprung the "surprise" - the company had a physical consultancy conducting an employee engagement previously that took around 3 month duration in total. - We had taken 48 hours, remember and then the final icing was when he said FitBiz360 had hit 95% of the issues identified by the physical consultants. - What would this efficiency and effectiveness uplift provide for your consulting practice? - The case study is available if you would like to know more - just message or reply yes below.

Here is a QUESTION THAT HAS BEEN HAUNTING ME FOR LONG. Please share your thoughts in the comments. My sojourn into full-time teaching (along with my work!) started in 2009 when one of the Professors, Dr K Chandrasekaran (a rare academic with a mind for product design!), requested I take a course on CREATIVE DESIGN and later got extended to EMBEDDED SYSTEMS and ELECTRONIC PACKAGING (this course encouraged me to write a book on the same topic. I was taking these courses for about five years before my job made me shift to Vizag. However, I have been teaching various forms focusing on basic System Design, Engineering, electronic manufacturing and EVs (last 5 years). During this duration, I saw many types of courses, starting from a textbook-based manufacturing course to ML/AI. But what surprised me was most of these courses were a collection of topics and applicability in practice is a big issue. I have been searching for a course "how to design hardware for an ML engine in practice. My search often led to a dead end. Most of these courses are theoretical and don't deal with "how and why". Mostly dealing with "What" only. None of these so-called courses ever teach you the basics so that application becomes easy. Are you facing a similar situation? Let me know in the comments. I got a chance to talk to high school students from different schools and cities recently. The first one was over a zoom call with students in Mumbai, and the second one was an in-person event with students in Bangalore, on campus. In both situations, I was greatly impressed with the candor and energy of the students. It was refreshing to witness their creativity and curiosity. I was invited to talk about Design Thinking. I have conducted several corporate workshops on Design Thinking talking to professionals with several years of experience. Here, I am talking to young minds. I realized my responsibility and opportunity to inspire these young minds and not leave them confused. Therefore, I resisted from giving the usual corporate slide show and talk about Empathy, Definition, Design, Ideate and Prototype — the usual template. I wanted to tap into their innate curiosity, light a fire in their minds, and leave them with a different perspective of the world that is easy to remember. Commoditization of AI models Yesterday evening I had the pleasure of watching Aravind Srinivas' (founder of Perplexity) interview with Aarthi Ramamurthy and Sriram Krishnan . It's a great interview and I would recommend AI founders to watch it if possible. https://lnkd.in/gnM2NeS8 Couple of things that stuck me from the interview: 1. Aravind believes in the commoditization of AI models in the long run. His take his firms like Perplexity which focus on user problems and solve for it using relevant models will win. Perplexity does it quite well, do check them out if you haven't already. This is something that AI entrepreneurs should think about. Creating foundational models is freaking expensive! and for conservative capital allocators like us it is too risky a bet (not betting on AI is even riskier 😅, I guess we need to learn more) I am going to tag the platform Guru and distinguished IIMB alumnus Sangeet Paul Choudary for his take on this. 2. The initial employees (5-10) have to be truth seekers rather than social affirmers(?) It was great hearing him talk about the culture at Perplexity of seeking the truth through open conversations and arguments on Slack rather than provide positive affirmation. I think it's something that every founder should strive for. Truth will prevail in the longer run. This works in technology, finance, politics, society, anywhere. (Satyamev Jayate is true in itself!) But to be able to have an open conversation, the founders need to have depth themselves. This is something that I feel the Indian ecosystem lacks, as most of the founders seem to be managerial in nature. I find them shifting to jargons rather than simplicity when questioned deeper. (By the way this is a classic test to check whether someone really knows it, people who know what they are talking about will make it simpler, those who don't take the cover of jargons to increase complexity and portray intelligence) I understand my analysis could be biased due to self-selection, and I would love to be proven wrong. It's pretty cool that Aravind chose Larry Page as his favourite entrepreneur due to their common background of coming from academic research to entrepreneurship. What I definitely don't agree with Aravind on The idea that luck doesn't play a role in outcomes. Successful people generally attribute success to their hard work/smartness / enterprise without understanding their privilege. For e.g. A smarter/more hardworking/more enterprising Dalit girl from Bihar will never have the kind of opportunities that I had as a Tam Bram born in a lower-middle class but very well educated family in Chennai. One has tried to solve for it using our Sakhi Scholars programme, which supports gifted girls from underprivileged communities to achieve their dream through financial support. On a lighter note, Aravind is a 2017 IIT-M alum and has already built a $8 billion company, what the hell am I doing with my life? 🤔

Back in college, my friends Sandeep, Rajeev, and I shared more than just a startup dream. We shared a vision having a drum kit in our office. We were startup founders by day, music lovers by night. For us, that drum kit symbolized creativity, passion, and a bit of freedom amidst the chaos of building a business. We started a T-shirt design company, full of ambition and big plans. But the market didn’t cooperate. Our startup failed. Yet, something from that time stayed with me the dream of the drum kit. Now, as I lead a new venture, Goldenflitch, I’ve finally made some part of that dream a reality. There’s a drum kit in my office, and every time I play, it reminds me of how far I’ve come and how much further there is to go. Huge thanks to Rajeev Gain, who first introduced me to drumming, and Sandeep Pradhan, who shared that love for music with me. Sometimes, the dreams we chase aren’t just about success. They’re about holding onto the things that make us feel alive even when the business doesn’t make it. We are consistently seeing increasing acceptance for Personalised Adaptive Learning (PAL) in our country. But if we truly want to break barriers, we got have a capability to deliver PAL across all kinds of devices and OS. When we had built the first version of iPrep PAL, it used to run only on Android devices. But our vision is to facilitate Learning Unlimited and to be able to do that we got to have the capability to let our students and teachers access PAL on any device that they may have or can buy based on their budget and comfort. I am happy to say that we at iDream Education now have this capability. iPrep PAL now works on tablets, smart phones, laptops, Chrome books, desktops and on web. I am super excited to see the potential it will unlock for the students and teachers of our country.
