Kian shared crucial insights on key questions we must answer as we stand on the brink of a new era in human history. A thought-provoking question that sparked a discussion in this session. We think belonging is this big, heady concept that requires an expensive, organization-wide transformation initiative. Not so! Wendy utilized grounding research to identify ideas that translate into behaviors that spark connection, respect, and a sense of protection. Every single employee can spark belonging right now wherever they sit in an organization because the energy of belonging is fueled or drained one human interaction at a time. Reflecting on an Engaging Session at the CLO Chief Learning Officers Summit India 2024! Last Friday, I had the privilege of sharing insights on Skilling and Apprenticeship: Ground Realities and Wins, where I introduced the SMART Framework for setting up a Skilling Factory within organizations. In today’s rapidly evolving landscape, creating a structured and scalable approach to skilling is no longer optional—it’s essential. Here’s a glimpse of the SMART Framework: 🔹 S - Skill Taxonomy and Proficiency Model Establish a comprehensive Skill Taxonomy and Skill-Adjacency Matrix to map skills and help employees transition between related competencies. Define proficiency levels using models like Dreyfus or SFIA for consistency in skill assessment. Build a Job-Role Skill Matrix to align roles with required skills. 🔹 M - Map Demand for Future-Ready Skills Categorize skills into Sunset, Hot, and Emerging Skills to prioritize for business growth. Create a clear line of sight on skill-specific demand to plan effectively. 🔹 A - Assess Supply with a Skill Inventory Develop a detailed Skill Inventory outlining employee skills and proficiency levels. Build a Talent Availability View to identify and address skill shortages. 🔹 R - Respond and Execute Classify skilling approaches as Made to Stock (long-term skill acquisition) or Made to Order (accelerated learning for immediate needs). Align learning solutions with skill-related performance indicators, ensuring real business impact. 🔹 T - Track and Govern the Skilling Process Implement ongoing assessment and recalibration to align skilling with evolving goals. Monitor outcomes to ensure measurable performance improvements. It was an enriching discussion with industry leaders, exchanging insights on how organizations can future-proof their workforce by blending structured skilling with effective apprenticeship programs. Who is it ! Who is our best friend and best enemy in life ? Best Friend is “Excitement”. Best Enemy is “Sorrow”. Excitement - infusing moments with energy, hope and anticipation. Whether it’s the thrill of a new opportunity or the joy of unexpected surprises, fuels our motivation and keeps us striving for more. Sorrow - arrives uninvited, casting a shadow over our brightest days. Sorrow challenges us with loss, disappointment, heartbreak and assessing our resilience capabilities. It keeps testing the character to strengthen our personality, deepens empathy and helps us appreciate the beauty of happiness when it returns.
