They are positioning SLFIs in the world stage for them to face the latest trends in IR 4.0, Cyber security, ESG Compliance etc. The SLFIs are providing effective financial assistance to the MSME units owing to their expertise, local knowledge and quick response thus contributing to the economy of the States. COSIDICI is headed by the Director General, Shri Hans Raj Verma and Ms. Laya Madduri, IAS, Secretary to the Government of Assam, Deptt. of Finance and Managing Director of Assam Financial Corporation, Guwahati as President of COSIDICI. Shri Hans Raj Verma has over 38 years of experience in the Civil Service and given a strategic vision for TIIC, Chennai which is India's 2nd oldest DFI, which was established in 1949. The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has announced an ambitious plan to operationalise a ₹1,000-crore venture capital fund by the first quarter of the financial year 2026. 🚀 Exciting times ahead for India's manufacturing landscape! (2/2) In continuation to the previous part, sharing the remaining insights from our "Manufacturing from India for the World" thesis: 5/ Food Processing: India's food processing industry is undergoing a transformation similar of the revolutions seen in automotive and electronics manufacturing in the past decade. A decade ago, global buyers hardly considered procuring from India, but today, we're witnessing the establishment of trade corridors across geographies. Regulatory reforms, technological advancements, and stringent quality control measures are propelling India into a major player in the global supply chain of processed fruits, vegetables, fish, seafood, and dairy products. 6/ Automobile Components: Much like the electronics manufacturing sector on the back of the "China + 1" theme, the past 3-4 years have seen strong global demand for Indian automotive components. Here is a quote from the Q1 FY24 conference call from RACL Gear Tech, “Maybe not 10, maybe 15 years back. Nobody could imagine that a European customer would buy gear from India. 20 years ago no European customer would have even thought to buy the plastic component from India. So gradually, India is gaining much respect and command into a global market.” Public companies have significantly expanded their export portfolios, positioning India as an emerging major sourcing hub for the automotive industry. 7/ Pharmacy: In recent years, India has significantly expanded research-linked incentive schemes, encouraging companies to invest in the development of new drugs, chemical entities, and biological entities. We believe these sustainable efforts will solidify India’s position as the 'Pharmacy of the World' by enhancing manufacturing and research capabilities in APIs. Furthermore, with India's ongoing ascent as a global sourcing and manufacturing hub, we anticipate substantial value creation across various segments of the value chain, such as: 1/ Capex Procurement: As India ramps up investments in manufacturing infrastructure driven by onshoring, offshoring, and friendshoring, the demand for efficient capex procurement solutions is increasing. This includes everything from effective vendor discovery to managing quality project execution. We have already backed Venwiz, which is building India's first and only marketplace focused on capex procurement. 2/ Waste Recycling: The government’s robust push to institutionalize recycling mandates across sectors aims to maximize mineral recovery from used products. If the IIMs - India’s elite business schools - had to follow the IITs and set up campuses abroad, which countries and cities would be the best targets? India’s elite technology schools - the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) - recently launched campuses abroad with: - Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi int he process of setting up a campus in Abu Dhabi (article below) - Indian Institute of Technology, Madras planning to set up a campus on the island of Zanzibar, Tanzania - Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur opening a campus in Malaysia If the IIMs were to follow, what would be the best global locations? I would prioritize locations with: 1. A significant Indian diaspora familiar with the brand 2. A growing commercial hub with increasing demand for management talent 3. Host country / city governments that can support I would consider these 5 cities as the most attractive targets for the IIMs: 1. Dubai Arguably the most attractive option given its large diaspora, strong ties with India and growth as a global business hub. There are lessons to be learnt from earlier attempts by some IIMs to have a presence and from private Indian schools with Dubai campuses 2. Kuala Lumpur A dynamic and fast growing economy with strong ties to India, that is growing as a business hub for South East Asia. 3. Singapore Singapore shares many attractive factors - diaspora, strong business hub, etc - to Dubai and Kuala Lumpur, but would be a more competitive market with strong global and Singaporean business schools already entrenched, so a differentiated value proposition is key. 4. Mauritius A financial hub for Africa with strong ties to India, this could focus on an MBA in Finance, similar to the IIMK Post Graduate Programme in Finance (PGP-Finance) 5. Nairobi The Kenyan capital is well diversified in terms of economic sectors and is emerging as a technology hub for Africa with global tech giants setting up hubs here. Like Mauritius, Kenya has a strong Indian diaspora and connection. What do you think? Where do you think the IIMs should go? Why?
