CFA Level 2 is often considered the hardest of all the 3 levels. But how to prepare for it effectively:- [1] Formula Heavy Level 2 is a formula heavy exam and you will be required to learn a lot of it. Make sure you are understanding the derivation of every formula and not just rote learning it. [2] Exam Format In Level 2 you bet Vignettes which means there will be a paragraph with a lot of data in it. You will be required to solve the MCQs based on it. Make sure you have practiced enough of these questions in exam like scenario. [3] Coaching or Self Study? L2 has same concepts as in L1 but they are in more depth and intense. I will recommend you to opt for coaching as it will help you better understand the in-depth concepts. However again it depends upon your background and past knowledge. [4] Time Required Keep atleast 6-8 months in hand for L2 and give a minimum of 1.5-2 hours everyday. Devote around 3-4 hours on Saturday and Sunday. Skip parties and hangouts. [5] Study Material Schweser Notes are good to go. However, you can use the combination of Schweser Notes + Institute Material. Jana Small Finance Bank Introduces Attractive Short-Term Deposit Plan 6.75% Interest Rate for High-Value Deposits Jana Small Finance Bank (SFB) is offering a flat 6.75% interest rate for short-term deposits over ₹10 lakh. This offer is designed to attract high-value deposits at the short end of the bank’s liability profile. No Early Withdrawal Penalties The new scheme, which started on September 19, 2024, comes with the added benefit of no penalties for early withdrawals, making it more flexible for investors. Applies to Bulk Deposits and Short-Term Investments Bulk deposits ranging from ₹3 crore to ₹200 crore will also attract this 6.75% rate, with maturities between 7 to 180 days. The product is targeted at high-income groups and corporates seeking short-term investment options. Structure of hedge fund : 1 Standalone fund : An independent Hedge fund that operates on its own. • structure: Typically organised as a limited partnership. Investors (limited partners) provide capital while the fund manager (general partner) manages the investments. 2 Master funds : A central fund that consolidates investments from multiple sources. • structure: Generally set up with feeder funds that gather capital from various investors. The feeder funds Invest directly into the master fund which conducts all trading and investment activities. 3 Fund of funds : A hedge fund that invests in other hedge funds. • Structure: pool capital from investors to invest in a diversified portfolio of hedge funds. may have multiple layers with the FOF acting as a layer on top of the other funds. * Role of fund accounting: It plays a crucial role in the management and operation of investment funds including hedge funds. Roles : 1 Record keeping: Tracks all financial transactions and maintains the general ledger. 2 Valuation : Calculates the net asset value (NAV) and ensures accurate asset pricing. 3 Reporting: Prepares investor statements and performance metrics. 4 Tax reporting: Prepares tax documents and ensures compliance with regulations. 5 Cash management: Manages cash flow and liquidity for operations. * Waterfall distribution : This method is used to allocate profits among in a fund typically in private equity and hedge funds. 1 Return of capital: Investors first receive back their initial capital contributions before any profits are distributed. 2 Preferred return ( hurdle rate ) : After capital returned investors may receive a prefered return which is a set percentage of profit ( often around 8%) before the fund manager receives any share of the profits. 3 Catch up provision : Once the preferred return is met there may be a catch up clause allowing the fund manager to receive a longer portion of the next profits are split is achieved. 4 profit split : After the preferred return and catch up provision, profits are split between investors and the fund manager according to predefined percentage. ( eg : 80/20 ) 5 Tiered Distribution : In some structures different tiers may exist where profits splits change based on cumulative returns. Ascertis Credit (formerly BPEA Credit) Nears Final Close of Short-Term Income Fund Mumbai, India – Ascertis Credit, formerly known as BPEA Credit, is approaching the final close of its Select Short Term Income Fund – I (SSTIF-I), which focuses on investments with quick turnover and predictable cash flows. The fund aims to raise Rs 750 crore to deploy in stable, short-term opportunities that generate regular income distributions for investors. SSTIF-I achieved its first close in June 2024 and is now nearing its final close, marking another milestone for Ascertis Credit in the Indian private credit market. The firm, which has rebranded from BPEA Credit, has a strong track record in India, having raised four funds and invested over a billion dollars in performing credit to date. Ascertis Credit is also reportedly planning its fifth fund, further demonstrating its commitment to the Indian market. Its Fund III, which announced a final close at $600 million in June 2022, is considered one of the largest single-country performing credit funds raised in Asia. ( most of the times they are) 2. I found too many students from the finance stream ( especially in teir 2-3 colleges) they don't even know about basic functionalities of the stock market , bond and real estate market and it's really painful to see that. 3. Lack of proper guidance and industry related needs differs a lot generally.People doing mba getting jobs of BPO. why why why less jobs? In pms, IB, PE, VC they generally need few people from top notch finance Background. To manage 90000 crore AUM they just have 4-5 portfolio managers. ( ex - quants MF) Because of this lot of core finance students have ended up doing marketing and sales jobs from teir 2 , 3 colleges. So what to do? Brother or sisters if you take core finance and you don't have interest in stock market and technicality then why you are doing so Job milna nahi milna is different thing... abhi toh I also don't know that whether I will get or not but start tracking market it will helps a lot. SEDOL (Stock Exchange Daily Official List): A 7-character alphanumeric code used in the UK and Ireland to identify securities. RIC (Reuters Instrument Code): A unique identifier used by Reuters to identify financial instruments. 1. The fund manager of the scheme is responsible for investing and managing this AUM on behalf of investors. 2. 𝙄𝙨 𝙝𝙞𝙜𝙝 𝘼𝙪𝙢 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙢𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙛𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙨? A large fund size would mean a lower expense ratio per person which in turn gets reflected in the fund returns. 3.𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝘼𝙪𝙢? AUM calculation is straightforward, you need to multiply the number of 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙨 or units held by investors by the current market price of each share or unit.
