Some thoughts on the OLA Electric IPO. - - The first bike was delivered in Dec 2021, so quite a young company doing an IPO :) - Sales seem to be stagnating for the past few months (too early to call it out anyway) - Will see how it develops its battery tech capabilities - Other players also scaling up - EV Chetak, Bajaj CNG Bike (Darkhorse) and iQube - Good R&D spends - Lithium battery and component imports - 37% of it from China (Increasing YoY) - One full warranty cycle on EVs not yet done - 870 Showrooms - majority less than 1 Yr old - Deep-pocketed OEMs are also playing the EV game but ICE OEMs' FCF can easily fund the EV businesses. - ICE OEMs' war chests, distribution network, and manufacturing prowess are far bigger and maybe even better! - 2 Triggers for the company - Financial and Fundamental - Financial - Sales volumes pick up rapidly and operating leverage kicks in - Monitor sales trends, Fame subsidy, and Unit Economics - Fundamental - Innovation on the product side, especially the battery - Mileage, cost, etc (Innovation in the truest sense) These are just some random thoughts. This state of its financials, though known and increasingly accepted as a hallmark of startups in high-growth sectors, is what provides context for incoming investors. After all, investing is about forecasting the future. As it stands, the signals are clear: a a zero probability of profitability in the near future; perhaps in 4-5 years, if at all. Even the total addressable market and market share assumptions behind these estimates are not without risk. Besides, the effort and capital that Ola Electric will need to put in to achieve these ambitious targets make breakeven an even more distant goal. SW Neo Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW Energy, has successfully completed the acquisition of 125 MW of renewable energy assets from Hetero Labs and Hetero Drugs. The wind power projects, located in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, were acquired for an enterprise value of approximately ₹630 crore. This strategic acquisition aligns with JSW Energy’s ambitious renewable energy goals of achieving 10 GW of renewable capacity by FY 2025 and 20 GW by 2030. The acquired portfolio consists of three Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) with long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) and a blended tariff of ₹5.22 per kWh. These assets boast an average remaining plant life of 15 years, providing a stable and reliable source of renewable energy for years to come. This acquisition further enhances JSW Energy’s renewable energy footprint, with its total locked-in capacity now standing at 24.7 GW, comprising a diverse mix of fuels and offtakers. The transaction’s valuation excludes net current assets and other adjustments under the Share Purchase Agreements (SPAs). By integrating these wind projects into its portfolio, JSW Neo Energy strengthens its position in the renewable energy sector while advancing its commitment to sustainability. This move underscores JSW Energy’s dedication to transitioning towards a greener energy portfolio and contributing to India’s renewable energy targets. SEBI has now given "CRISIL" the go ahead to offer "ESG Ratings" to Indian Companies. The ESG space is truly heating up with big funds offering finance for green projects. Firms need to get their act together and get their compliances, disclosures include ESG factors. This goes beyond the companies mandated to disclose as per SEBI regulations. Exporters to European union are increasingly required by the importing companies to make the disclosures. VCs, Asset Managers are increasingly allocating to Green projects and ratings become inevitable

The #PM #EDRIVE Scheme has been approved by the Cabinet (proposal placed by MHI with a financial outlay of ₹10,900 crore for two years to expedite the adoption of EVs by providing upfront incentives for their purchase, as well as by facilitating the establishment of essential charging infrastructure for #EVs. This initiative promotes #electricmobility through #subsidies for #electric 2 & 3 Wheelers, #buses, #ambulances, and #trucks. One should look into this along with the state incentives available in each of the states' industrial policies to maximise the benefit. Here is the bifurcation with primary conditions: 1. Electric 2-W & 3-Wheelers - ₹3,679 crore (24.79 lakh 2-Wheelers, 3.16 lakh 3-Wheelers) - e-voucher issued to buyers with Aadhaar authentication while purchasing. Such voucher would be uploaded by the dealer on the assigned portal to demand incentives. 2. Electric Buses - ₹4,391 crore (for procurement of 14,028 e-buses by STUs/public transport agencies subject to more than 40 lacs population in cities) - Preference to those scrapping old buses under Vehicle Scrapping Scheme 3. Electric Trucks - ₹500 crore - Incentives for trucks with scrapping certificate from MoRTH-approved centres 4. Electric Ambulances - ₹500 crore - Performance standards to be set by MoHFW, MoRTH 5. Charging Infrastructure (to address range anxiety while driving EVs) - ₹2,000 crore (Install 22,100 fast chargers for e-4Ws and 48,400 for e-2Ws/e-3Ws) 6. Upgradation of testing agencies with an outlay of ₹780 Cr. This scheme is a enhanced/improved version of FAME Policy, though focuses more on rapid EV adoption. It is unlikely to include Hybrid vehicles, but need to wait for the clarity. Priority Cities and Corridors: High EV-share cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai prioritized. 40 highway corridors for buses and 20 for trucks identified for charging stations. Implementation Plan: Subsidy released in three phases: tender award (30%), deployment (40%), and commercial operation (30%). Completion target: 52 weeks post-scheme clearance.
