💥The problem is that Abrahamic Economics is purely about building relationships on utility & profits, from a One life consumption standpoint. Lifecycles concept is beyond their capacity to understand. They are shocked when we celebrate the moon as chanda mama or billi mausi rhymes or involve elephants in mandir processions or feed Gaumata with folded hands. To them the only life which nurtures the entire mankind with her milk after a mother is just another sub-standard animal, unequal life and a random food item. To them the moon is full of resources to be looted. The elephant can ONLY be a profits model with a zoo ticket & after eating animals they can upload dog pics on social media with animal rights captions. To them allowing animals to walk about on public roads with our vehicles is "chaos". We cutting jungles & wiping off the natural residence of animals is "development". Accelerating India's EV Future with the PM E-DRIVE Scheme⚡ The Indian government’s approval of the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, with an outlay of ₹10,900 crore over the next two years, is a significant step toward advancing India’s EV ecosystem. The scheme builds on previous initiatives but now expands its focus to e-buses, e-ambulances, e-trucks, e-2Ws, and e-3Ws, deepening EV adoption across vehicle classes. A key highlight for me, with my experience advising eMobility players in the UK and Europe, is the ₹2,000 crore allocation to install 22,100 fast chargers for e-4Ws, 1,800 for e-buses, and 48,400 for e-2Ws/3Ws. There’s much India can learn from the UK and EU journeys— with over 68,000 chargers in the UK (ZapMap) and 650,000+ charging points in Europe (ACEA)—but lessons need to be tailored for the Indian context. 🛠️ Strategic Deployment of Charging Infrastructure A key takeaway from Europe is the need to include EV Super Charging Hubs in city plans. This allows for synergistic infrastructure deployment and avoids repeat digging of utilities. These hubs could also spur new residential and commercial developments around them, adding value beyond mobility. Prioritizing Super Hubs for highways and Tier 2 cities is essential. ⚡ Empowering Domestic EV Charger Manufacturers While a ₹2,000 crore stimulus for chargers is a strong start, local manufacturing through Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes will ensure long-term growth. Boosting in-country production will reduce costs, cut imports, and position India as a key global player in eMobility. 📈 Avoiding Market Fragmentation In Europe, rapid entry of new eMobility players creates competitive dynamics but also risks market fragmentation as early investor interest fades. Ensuring long-term stability requires careful regulation to avoid potential company failures that could hurt consumers and the sector. 🚀 Tech-Enabled Services (eMSP/CPMS) UK and Nordic countries have seen the rise of tech-driven services for Charge Point Operators (CPOs). With India's strong IT sector, we can expect start-ups and PE investors to drive innovation by leveraging synergies between Western and Indian markets. Exciting news! I am thrilled to share "India Employment Outlook 2030" written by me with Arya Roy Bardhan, Debosmita Sarkar, and Soumya Bhowmick. Here are some key takeaways from our research: - The achievement of India's US$ 5 trillion economy goal is projected to increase employment by 22%, leading to a 97 basis point decline in unemployment rates by 2028. - The service sector will play a critical role in job creation, with employment expected to increase by as much as 0.12% with every 1% rise in services output. - Women's employment opportunities will expand with the growth of the service sector. A 1% growth in services' GDP can generate a 0.31% increase in job creation for women. To make the most of this potential, skill set diversification, financial inclusion, and enabling entrepreneurial ecosystems are a must. - Adequate focus on manufacturing activities is also crucial for India's employment outlook in 2030. A transition must be initiated toward the expansion of industrial value chains associated with the service sector. - The convergence of digital, financial, health, hospitality, retail, renewable energy, and startup sectors presents a transformative opportunity for India's employment landscape, yielding over 100 million new jobs by 2030. - To foster employment growth, it is imperative to leverage policies like Digital India, Startup India, and PLI and prioritize mutually beneficial trade agreements, especially for labor-intensive export sectors. It was an honour to chair the panel discussion on Role of #DISCOMs in scaling up of #ElectricCooking organised by the Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) Programme through its In-country partner - India, Finovista; and supported by the Office of Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, International Solar Alliance (ISA); and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). India’s drive to ensure #energyaccess for all has extended electricity to 99.9% of households. The SAUBHAGYA scheme, launched in 2016, successfully electrified 28 million households in remote areas within 17 months—making it the fastest electrification initiative in history. This achievement has lifted over 500 million people from energy poverty. Now, with nearly universal grid connectivity, promoting electric cooking—already preferred in many developed nations—makes strong economic sense. According to India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF)’s White Paper on Electric Cooking, upgrading the grid to provide minimum 2-3 kW connections for every household will require approx USD 100 per household, a cost-effective investment. DISCOMs play a crucial role in ensuring reliable electricity supply and promoting electric cooking, which will have significant implications for load management and revenue. New Digital Economy and the Paradox of Productivity by Sadhan Kumar Chattopadhyay, Sreerupa Sengupta and Shruti Joshi^ This article estimates the contribution of digitalisation to productivity growth and examines the Solow Productivity paradox for India. The analysis indicates that the contribution of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to output growth increased from 5.0 per cent in 1981-1990 to 13.2 per cent during 1992-2023. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) April Bulletin has an interesting study on `Gauging Linguistic Complexity of Regulatory Communication’. The study tries to measure the complexity of the language used in central bank regulations. The analysis suggests that most circulars require the reader to be a graduate, which is generally the education level of commercial bank employees. However, a corollary emanating from this conclusion is whether circulars should be aimed only at regulated entities or should they also be able to be understood by common people who consume banking services. Since, the latter is also the need, a simpler version of regulations would be ideal. My take in today's Business Standard.
