Resham W.'s journey: Growing, Leading, and Innovating with Data at Urban Company "I still remember the excitement and curiosity of starting my journey as a Senior Data Scientist five years ago. I was eager to explore the boundaries of Data Science and Machine Learning, and it felt like the perfect challenge to create impactful solutions in a fast-moving environment. One of my earliest milestones was developing the company’s first end-to-end ML pipeline and deploying multiple Computer Vision models. It was a hands-on experience that taught me the importance of teamwork, clear communication, and taking ownership of the product lifecycle—from technical implementation to aligning with stakeholder expectations. As I transitioned into the role of Staff Data Scientist, I had the opportunity to design and implement a robust Data Science Platform. Leading a team of incredibly talented professionals, we tackled diverse business challenges using ML, DS, and AI. This phase sharpened not only my technical expertise but also my leadership skills and ability to build bridges across departments. I championed a data-driven mindset within the team, emphasizing the need to rely on evidence-based decision-making and encouraging critical thinking over assumptions. Now, as Principal Data Scientist, I lead a team dedicated to solving complex problems using cutting-edge solutions. From leveraging LLMs for cost optimization and improving customer experiences to mitigating risks, every project brings new dimensions to my learning. The journey has been about embracing challenges, staying curious, and evolving with the rapidly advancing field of data science. The growth I've experienced has been deeply fulfilling, and the collaboration and mentorship I've received from colleagues have been invaluable. Steena Jomy's Urban Company Journey: 9 Years of Building, Leading, and Transforming "I started my journey at UC as a Product Content Operations Associate, diving headfirst into the world of content management. It wasn’t just about the processes; it was about discovering how to build scalable workflows, collaborate with diverse teams, and create user-centered strategies. Those early days were filled with trial and error, but they taught me the importance of laying strong foundations. As I moved into a lead role, everything changed. Suddenly, I was responsible for creating content standards, managing a talented team, and measuring success through metrics. I remember grappling with the delicate balance of maintaining quality while meeting tight deadlines. It wasn’t always easy, but it shaped me into a more thoughtful leader and instilled the confidence to take on bigger challenges. One of the pivotal moments in my career came when I stepped into broader operations management. It was exciting—and nerve-wracking—to expand my role beyond content. I worked on streamlining workflows, cutting delivery times, and fostering collaboration between design, content, and development teams. Today, as a Design Operations Manager, I feel like I’ve come full circle, bringing together everything I’ve learned over the years. From orchestrating global design systems to optimizing workflows and resource planning, this role allows me to build something bigger than myself. If there’s one thing I’ve learned through this journey, it’s that growth happens when you step out of your comfort zone—and when you’re willing to embrace the messy, beautiful process of learning."
