At our second session of the Lunch & Learn Series at CES, we had the privilege of hosting Kushal Murthy, Founder & CEO of Sapientury, a trailblazer bridging the gap between academia and industry through innovative career education solutions. Kushal shared his entrepreneurial journey and valuable lessons on balancing ambition with empathy and strategy with heart.
Here are some key takeaways from the session:
Entrepreneurship starts with an audacious dream, but it thrives on achievable steps. Kushal emphasized the importance of balancing risk appetite with market realities, building a founding team that complements your vision and brings diverse strengths, and preparing for uncertainties with multiple plans for multiple scenarios.
The power of networking - “your network is your net worth”. The session highlighted the importance of meaningful relationships with mentors, peers, and industry leaders. Every connection is a potential dot on the canvas—stay curious, engaged, and open to new opportunities. Platforms like TiE provide excellent avenues to connect with like-minded individuals.
Remaining competitive and innovative requires consistent learning and staying updated. Subscribing to newsletters like GrowthX, TechCrunch, YourStory Media, and Forbes provides curated insights. For deeper insights into entrepreneurship, Kushal recommended The Hard Thing About Hard Things by Ben Horowitz and Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki.
Kushal offers a unique perspective on work-life balance, advocating for work-life integration instead—blending work and life in a sustainable way. Entrepreneurship can be overwhelming, but burnout can be mitigated by adopting strategies that prioritize integration over separation. Workations and intentional breaks help maintain energy and focus, while tools and habits like those in Dan Martell’s book, Buy Back Your Time frameworks allow for reclaiming time and optimizing productivity.
Great leadership stems from a blend of competence, compassion, and care. Balancing decision-making with active teamwork, a leader empowers others by taking initiatives and fostering a collaborative environment. True leadership is grounded in understanding the needs and motivations of the team.
Kushal’s insights were a masterclass in balancing ambition with empathy, strategy with heart.
