Meet Prajwal P from our Engineering Team as he reflects on his journey of resilience, passion, and inclusion: “I was born into a world of silence. At just five months old, my parents discovered I had profound hearing loss. While the news was heartbreaking, they were determined to give me the best life possible. From attending the Rotary West and Parents Association of Deaf Children Trust at just 1.5 years old to learning English in a specialized program, my parents never gave up on me. Those four foundational years equipped me with more than just communication skills—they gave me the confidence to believe in my potential. By age five, I was ready to enter mainstream education, a testament to the incredible support system around me. From a young age, I was fascinated by technology, a passion that led me to pursue a degree in Computer Science Engineering at R.V. College of Engineering. Learning in an environment designed for hearing individuals was challenging, but I adapted. Lip-reading and hearing aids became my tools for navigating the world. Joining PhonePe has only solidified this passion. From the very beginning, I felt included. The interview process accommodated my needs with captions, and upon joining, I was thrilled to see a loop induction system for hearing-impaired individuals—showcasing PhonePe’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion. Joining as an Engineer in the SRE team was a significant milestone. The work we do impacts millions of users and provides flexibility in the types of challenges we tackle. My manager was incredibly welcoming, understanding of my disability, and always willing to help. This journey has taught me that genuine inclusion goes beyond mere accommodation. It requires a deep understanding of individual needs and a proactive approach to creating accessible spaces.
